Dear All I have followed various tutorials of installation of slashcode. And eventually, I got installed the relevant modules (not least Bundles::Slash) and created a mysql database. Then, I unpacked Bundled-Slash.2.52 and cd into it. Then: perl Makefile.pl (which created a Makefile) make make install But, nothing seems to happen. There is no /usr/local/slash or /etc/init.d/slash. I have looked in the makefile, but I have little knowledge about the different funktions and variables so I am quite lost. Could anyone help me? I use debian Squeeze on a 32-bit small tosiba laptop with intel processor that I use as server. Flemming |

What happened when you typed "make"? What happened when you typed "make install"? Make sure you are using the newer code found via haxlash.org ... I've committed several fixes to the new repo ... Uarghh, this is definitely nasty. I am not happy with rebuilding my apache server outside debian's system. I just tried to build libapache2-mod-perl2 from debian source, but I did not succeed (it waited on the server (?) ...). In case I build my apache, I will end up with packages that are incompatible with the debian-apache-system. To keep my debian system I have to convert the compiled server to debian packages, which is not far from rebuilding the whole debian-apache system. This will take me days .... and I would actually build a competing apache-debian-system - perhaps the debian guys are better than I am! Probably, I will end up with ruined webserver. In short, installing slash requires that start up a new webserver. A better solution seems to be to fix the bugs in debians mod_perl. But, I am not able to do this since my perl-knowledge is meager. > Your best bet is to try and follow the instructions here: > > http://www.misterorange.com/docs/INSTALL-Slash-For-Dummies.html I have followed it quite carefully. > > Make the appropriate replacements for versions. I apologise for not having seen it before. ..... By the way, I never ever came to try it due to debian/perl bugs which I have reported. I cannot overview the general consequences of this as I don't know the extent to which software such as mediawiki, wordpress, etc. depend on apache2. An alternative might be to have to apache1.3 running on another port than 80 so that two apache servers ran on my machine. Could that work? flem |

Sorry. :( No problem, I suppose ... since it shall not be integrated into debian ... I am convinced that would not be a simple Sunday afternoon task.
