Hi folks, I have a bunch of people who don't bother using the submit.pl form for their submissions, but email me instead. Can I easily set up something which will accept those emails and automatically submit them? Obviously they will still need looking at by an editor/author who approves them but this would save a lot of time. Thanks Alex PS I've just upgraded to Slashcode 2.2.6, and run a redhat Linux 7.x box in case that makes a difference. PPS I had problems using the upgrade script which converts the database from 2.0 to 2.2.x format. If I post the problems here will anyone look at them? I don't think I know enough Slash to debug them myself and provide a patch. Openweb Analysts Ltd, London. One thing I always meant to implement (and actually had for awhile) was the ability to accept submissions via email. example: if you email sub...@sl..., the submission is inserted into the submissions table. We have the From: field (which can contain a name and an email address), a Subject, and a body. So we have all the fields necessary. The reason I didn't is that I simply didn't want *spam* to be submitted to the submissions bin on Slashdot. The email does *not* go into the database first, but to the human editor, who deletes or fixes some tags - an xmlish thing so it's easier to parse. Then the editor forwards it along to the system. It bounces back to editor if it doesn't parse. YMMV but that workflow was better for us. > > On Wednesday 31 July 2002 04:56 am, Alex McLintock wrote: > > Hi folks, > > > > I have a bunch of people who don't bother using the submit.pl form for > > their submissions, but email me instead.
