There is no prealpha 1. You mean pre1? If you upgraded from pre1, and you read the instructions, and make / make install is all you did, then you either didn't read or didn't follow the instructions. Both README and INSTALL are very clear. README says INSTALL contains upgrade instructions, and INSTALL has the upgrade instructions, and they involve more than just running make. Please read, and follow, the upgrade instructions in INSTALL. http://slashcode.com/docs/INSTALL.html#upgrading -- Chris Nandor pu...@po... http://pudge.net/ Open Source Development Network pu...@os... http://osdn.com/ |

Upgraded from prealpha 1. Yes I read the instructions, make and make install is pretty much all I did. I made some changes, but I copied them over and changed it (ie breaking the symb link). The script in the latest release of Slash 2.0.0 doesn't start right on FreeBSD. I posted the bug on sourceforge. Basically, if you modify the script and use the Linux one it works fine. |

Dear List Memebers, My problem is the next: I have installed the Slashcode v1.0.11 on my computer. After a short time I have noticed if I successively (repeatedly) refreshed the first page, some of the slashboxes was not displayed or there was something else in place of it. My hardware: Pentium I 200 Mhz MMX, 94 MB RAM. During refreshing the first page it is swapping strongly max 90Mb to the HDD. I can not make a decision the reason is the little HW or there is a bug in the SW or my browser is wrong. Though I have already tried it with several Browser, but the situation was the same. Do you have any ideal? About the SoftWare: Debian Potato with the newest packages, but I do not know the version of mysql, perl, apache. :> vj...@ag... |

Hi list: Finally I was able to install slashcode on my machine and having fun playing with it. I do have a question, though, that is how to modify the variables used by the code. I went through the help page and it says that currently you should be able to modify them in the slashdotrc.pl file. I could not find such a file in the version that I installed (slash-2.0.0.pre3). However, I was able to find it in the stable version (slash-1.0.11). Can someone tell me how to do it with slash-2.0.0.pre3). Thank you so much in advance. Hi everyone: I had another question. I tried to set up slashcode1.0.11 according to the instructions. First I installed mysql (step 7 for 1.011). I was able to access the server as user either root or mysql . I found it very confusing that I got the message that it could connect to local MySQL server through socket /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock when I tried to access it as some other users. Anyway, I went ahead and modified the safe_mysqld, adding TZ=GMT export TZ to it. I added them after the first several comments at the beginning of the script. However, after that, I could not run mysql as root or mysql. It gave me the same error message as it could not connect to local MySQL server through /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock. Can someone help me here? Thank you very much. Xiaowu Xiaowu Gai 2104 Molecular Biology Building Department of Zoology & Genetics Iowa State University Ames, IA 50010 Tel: (515)-2940022 |

I've installed a test Slash 2pre3 server at <http://www.toptop5.com:8870>. It runs on a Red Hat 6.2 (+ updates) box, and on that port the Apache server has been manually built together with mod_perl. The user section runs fine, but when I try to edit a story as <http://www.toptop5.com:8870/admin.pl?op=edit&sid=00/01/25/1430236> or enter a new story, the script dies. Looking at the HTML source reveals that after printing out header and a template something bad happens, but is not written in the logs. ------- snip ------------ <!-- end template: ID 19, admin;menu;default --> HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Fri, 04 May 2001 16:31:52 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) mod_perl/1.25 X-Powered-By: Slash 2.000000 Set-Cookie: user=%2532%253a%253a%2537%2537%2533%2534%2539%2539%2530%2530%2533%2538%2532%2533%2562%2531%2538%2565%2563%2565%2533%2563%2535%2538%2562%2537%2539%2539%2538%2538%2563%2537%2531%2537; path=/; expires=Sat, 04-May-2002 16:31:52 GMT Set-Cookie: session=1; path=/; expires=Sat, 04-May-2002 16:31:52 GMT Connection: close Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <TITLE>200 OK</TITLE> </HEAD><BODY> <H1>OK</H1> The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.<P> --------- snip --------------- Any ideas? If you are running a recent version of Sendmail (or any other MTA I am aware of), relaying is blocked unless you explicitly authorize it. There are a number of ways to authorize relaying. One way is to configure the mail server to relay messages from machines in a certain IP address range. Specify the IP address of the machine running Slash, and the mail should go through. Hi, I have installed slash and it's running on a local server. The problem is that when users other than me (I'm admin) try to login their passwords aren't being mailed to them. In otherwords, they can never get a password to login. What have I set up incorrectly? Also, I need to get more information about configuring the look of the site, the blocks admin area is confusing to me. erena |

I want my block appear on the top/left.
It's the first block on the column of left that has Ordernum=1
For example the "Quick Links" box on the slashcode' s web.
