I've replaced the term "Anonymous Coward" throughout my blog =97 but = it's=20 popping up in Messages, their subjects and the content, and I can't=20 seem to figure out where it's coming from. I changed reply_msg;comments and reply_msg_subj;comments =97 but that=20 doesn't seem to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

So it sounds like you basically want to have a Wiki, that only those with privileges can edit -- (versioning is part of the Wiki), but still have the comment system as implemented by Slash. Sorry, just thinking out loud so that I'm clear. This is a great idea, and I bet that it wouldn't be too out of the question to implement using chromatic's stuff as a base. (I'm assuming you're speaking of written content though, and not code content) The "upload file as bodytext" functions already exist elsewhere, you could implement this without too much trouble probably... I'd also like to look into chromatic's Wiki module, because this could also be extended to allow more tags. I looked around at other Wikis and found that there are some tags like "==" that indicate a <h2> font or whatever. I saw another that made WikiWords in a grey color if their page(s) hadn't been defined yet. That was another good idea. Regardless, I think the Wiki concept is pretty cool. It was hard to explain to the guys in my department. Funny how something so simple can be so effective. For pages like FAQs and whatnot, it's the ticket. The problem is that I can't get people to contribute!! --Bill |

I played around with the Wiki plugin a while back, and although it seemed to pretty much work, it wasn't really what I wanted. FWIW, I found a Wiki with source control back end (SubWiki, uses Subversion), and I've been hacking it for a while to generalize it to HTML and XML pages. It's in Python, so I had to learn python for it, but it has come along quite nicely so far. When I'm not thinking completely straight, I want to adapt this tool for use with Slashcode. The idea would be a versioned content management systems for testing and development, then you would upload the content to the database as a complete release. Basically, I want the versioned content management system for the "authored" parts of the content, but I still want the comment system and fast database implementation of Slashcode. You can view it's source here: http://cvs.slashcode.com/cgi-bin/cvsweb/unsupported/plugins/Repository/ I think it was more or less moved to the unsupported because of lackoftime to keep it working with current-cvs-slash (imho). I started a plugin-manager plugin for my own use earlier this year. I never finished it. I can put it up in CVS if you want to try it. Shane |

Is anyone using the Wiki plugin that was written by chromatic a couple of years ago? I installed it and it crashed whenever I tried to save a page. I found the bug and fixed it. But this plugin isn't being maintained by anyone. An e-mail to chr...@or... produced no response. I've also changed a few other things -- added an "Edit" button and made the input form into a new template. This way the input form isn't always visible until a user actually wants to make a change. Made the text area into a table with a single cell that has a shaded background -- sets the Wiki area off a little better. At any rate, this was my first experience with a Wiki and I thought it worked out well on my Slash site (engineering department page on company intranet). Would like to pass along the changes I've made (including bug fix -- perhaps someone has a more elegant solution than what I've done) for anyone interested. Does anyone have suggestions on how to proceed? All of these plugins add an overwhelming amount of new functionality to Slash... (Blob, FAQster, Wiki, Galleria, etc.) Is there a central location where all of the plugins are documented? If not, is there a place where we could start doing this? (A Wiki would be a great place to do this!) --Bill |

Here's a suggestion: Instead of trying to hack this on to search, it might be better to create a plugin (and the code) to do such advanced user searches. Once you get into creating custom queries, it's always a good idea to think about creating a plugin, unless you think MOST sites are going to want to use the functionality. - Cliff |

Hi, I've been playing around with Slash::Search lately. I'm trying to compile some data into a template that effectively says, "Here are all the users who have a maxcommentsize of 1048." For example. Or, "Here are all the users who have entered a nickname in their preferences." And then spew out that list. However, I'm having trouble calling the correct search call. Is there a way to specifically search for all the users who have, for example, selected that they live in California? (an option which of course was added into users_param).. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Chris. |

On Tuesday 11 November 2003 09:56, Chris Johnson wrote: > Has any work been done on alternate passwd systems? I'm > specifically interested in NIS. No work has been done specifically for NIS, but I don't see the problem in making, say, a Slash::Apache::User::NIS and using that as a PerlAccessHandler for your site. As best I understand it: your handler should return DECLINED if decides to pass access handling along to another module, FORBIDDEN if the user is denied access (ie banned) or OK if the user has authenticated properly. If you need to redirect the user to another URI/URL for some reason, initialize the redirect and return REDIRECT. And, of course, to make matters more confusing, if you expect to handle SSL logic, that should be done here as well. After looking at Slash::Apache::User::handler(), I'm not quite so sure as to how well using DECLINED will work. I suspect that returning DECLINED would allow you to pass control along to another PerlAccessHandler, that way you could use the proposed Slash::Apache::User::NIS, and if necessary, fall back to Slash::Apache::User. I think it's possible, but you might want to do a little research on the internals of a PerlAccessHandler to be sure. There's a load of other stuff, you might want to try and parse Slash::Apache::User::handler() to see all of the conditions it handles and whether or not they are applicable to what you are trying to do. Hope this is enough to get you started. - Cliff |

yes http://software.lottadot.com/faqster.pl? op=view&faqid=1§ion=software#c_Customizations same idea. But the table you want is users_comments. You must reset the section and "Preview" to get the proper topics for your section, and you cannot "Preview" until your story has a title, and I THINK it might need something in the introtext field, as well. Here's another thing to try. Try creating a new story again, don't touch the title or the introtext, just set the section and see if you can see your new topics. - Cliff |

Hi again, Have a new and bizzare problem. On the standard slash install home screen in the right column, 3rd block down we see Quick Links, a realization of the index_qlinks block. I modified it to contain the appropriate HTML for a link and saved it but not as the default. So then I went back to the home page. A my changes showed up, the link I had just added was there. Then, after some looking at other pags, I went back and the old block was back and my just added link was gone. After a while my modified block reappears. Now, index_qlinks is checked as a static or slash block when I call up the blocks page. But the portold box is also checked. I know that some blocks are generated on the fly. I thought this was supposed to be static block. Obviously there's some confusion somewhere. Help appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Johnson |Internet: jo...@nm... =46rom admin.pl, around line 1351: my $topic_values =3D $slashdb->getDescriptions('topics_section',=20 $storyref->{section}); $topic_select =3D createSelect('tid', $topic_values, $storyref->{tid}, 1, 0, 1 ); This is where the topic list is generated, there are a few things you=20 can try, here: =46rom the command line: perl -MSlash::Test=3D<vu> -le 'print=20 Dumper($slashdb->getDescriptions("topics_section", $section)' Replace $section with the name of a defined section, and "<vu>" with=20 the virtual user of your site. You might want to iterate through the=20 sections, to see which ones are defined, you can do this from the=20 command-line: perl -MSlash::Test=3D<vu> -le 'print Dumper(keys %{$slashdb->getSections()}= )' Collect that output and see if you can find your new topic in ANY of=20 the sections that it should be in. If you want further help=20 interpreting the output, I'd be glad to assist you. I *suspect* that the section_topics table may be slightly wonky and a mismatched topic ID is the cause of your problem. I would need to know the contents of your section_topics table, and your topics=20 table, to be sure, however. =2D Cliff PS: I'm really beginning to loathe some of the things KMail does. I sent th= is to the list days ago from the wrong address (the one I *expressly* told it not to use) and it used it anyway and is hung in approvals. I'll just continue to send mail to the list from here, but be aware that this message may appear twice. |

Ok, more poking. After adding a topic, I looked at the source of the constructed New article page. We have the following comment, first place I see it; start template: ID 169, select;misc;default temple 169 looks ok. It appears to be generating an ordered list of topics. The source of the resulting page just lacks my added topic. It isn't even a case of bad HTML. It just isn't there. I've been tracking code in admin.pl. Am I correct in thinking that when I click New I end up in admin.pl in the editStory subroutine? Or is it someplace else? I'm trying to find the code where this templatr was called so I can see where it is getting it's topic list. Still learning here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Johnson |Internet: jo...@nm...
