Ok, I found this and I tried it:
1. Mark the person as an author in the user editor, crank up their 
seclev a bit.
2. Wait for slashd to run the refresh_authors.pl task, or run it by 
hand.
3. restart apache and slashd.
4. post a story as that author.

restart apache and slashd again, if you're impatient.


That procedure did not fix things. I logged in with my new author, 
amherstonian, on a different browser, and created a story. Again it 
posted as the main author, slash. Then I restarted apache and slash in 
every order I could think of, in case it matters. I still cannot get 
the author to be 'amherstonian' instead of "slash'. Amherstonian 
created it. Why would it continue to say 'slash'?
