[Slashcode-general] problems concatenating httpd.conf and slash.conf

Newbie question: I got slash installed, finally, but when I append the 
contents of slash.conf onto the end of httpd.conf and restart, the httpd 
daemon doesn't understand what SlashVirtualUser is (from the line 
SlashVirtualUser <virtual_usr>), and therefore fails to start up 
apache.  Any help would be very much appreciated.
