now don't all jump on me if i'm wrong here, but i just upgraded my site  
to latest cvs and it is totally down and out for the count. i can't  
figure out what's going on.

sorry, the bug report's title is a little misleading. but in any case,  
be *very* careful before you upgrade, and test it *thoroughly* on a  
separate machine. (I did, but not thoroughly enough :(
