[Slashcode-development] story param question

in the newstories/stories table there is a column: writestatus - status code
determines how often static page is re-writen.

can anyone explain the possible values of this, what each do, and if slash
code controls writestatus or if it expects us to choose something for it and
insert it with each new story? (we've built a custom php interface to slash
that puts stuff directly into the db.)
