I started work on something that will solve this for you... I just have a few things to clean up on it. Basically, I wrote a module that exports a function to "lookup" a table. Then all table names can be changed as you please. It was originally intended so that I could use the same user information between multiple slash sites, but it seems that it might be right up your alley as well. Are you interested?
