Slashdot should have a "-1 Pedantic" moderation mode.
This sounds like a joke, but it is not. I have been
moderating and metamoderating /. for about two years,
and it seems like people who make posts with minor
corrections get moderated in all sorts of ways. It would
be better to lump the spelling corrections, comments
about word choice (e.g. agendum/agenda etc),
complaints about acronyms, and generally
informationless but mildly interesting comments
together. I consider this to be useful because:
a) now all these comments receive random moderations
depending if the reader thinks the comment is
interesting, but irrespective of the validity of the
comment (e.g. Insightful, Offtopic, Troll, etc).
b) those of us with a passion for minutae could browse
at +5 Pedantic modifier and get all the good stuff
c) metamoderation will be easier because a comment
that is undeniably pedantic might be Offtopic, Insightful,
etc depending on the attitude of the (meta)moderator,
making disagreement likely.
Again, although it sounds kind of funny, I really think this
would help the average /. reader and the moderation
Log in to post a comment.
