#4476 auto_more function breaks page scrolling
The slashdot home page initially shows 10 items, but when the user scrolls to the bottom, it will automatically load more items.
This is a _mis-feature_...there is no value in automatically adding items, but there is lossage when users are teleported to some other location on what should be the _same_ page.
To reproduce: open slashdot in Firefox. Grab scrollbar thumb, and start dragging down the page to check articles. When you reach some spot near the bottom, you will find the page is reloaded, but the scroll thumb remains in the same place. This forces the browser to jump forward many pages to the "new" location.
It is a huge pain in the neck to try to find where you _used_ to be in the page, especially if you were in the middle of actually _reading_ the Slashdot content. (Which, presumably, is the whole _point_ of having that site.)
Please decide on a fixed number of articles for the front page, just like you did 3 weeks ago.
If you _must_ have the auto_more nonsense, please allow users to turn the damn thing off.
This bug will drive users _away_ from your site, so please don't mark this low priority...
