I use an EEE PC 8G almost exclusively (the kind with the 800x480 display), and you may have already guessed that visual real-estate is very important. I noticed 2 bugs on the Slashdot site that likely relate to Ajax. Take a look at the following two screenshots to get a better picture:

1) When I close the series of polls, stats, whatever, on the right side, the article text & titles do not expand to fill in the remaining void (which would naturally make the site more readable)
2) The layout is not saved upon successive visits to the site.
Sorry - I know how painful web development can be sometimes. Thanks though - I've been a regular /.'er for years and I've always found your site to be excellent.

Click the ">|" icon (right below the "Search" button in your screenshot) to collapse the Slashbox column.
The same goes for the "|<" icon on the other end of that bar and the /. sections...
And whether those sections are shown or not is remembered for me as long as I stay logged in.
