I'm not using the Discussion2 version of Slashdot unlike most other users which probably are using it by now (I'm not a big fan of it). This is probably why no one has noticed this bug. When I use the drop-down to switch from my default threshold of 4, the lesser number thresholds are displaying the wrong number of comments (see attached screenshot). Also, since my default threshold is 4, the page should be displaying all twelve of the comments equal to or above 4, but it is not, it is only displaying 2 comments even though it says it is displaying 12 (see attached screenshot).
The article used in the screenshots is: http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/01/29/026237
I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.11 on Windows.

I figured out that this is caused when "Hard Thresholds" is enabled in the comment preferences. I'm not sure if this is the desired result when this feature is enabled or not. If so, then you can close this bug report, but please update the Help FAQ to explain exactly what this feature does. -chris

This bug still exists for unregistered users, however we do not even have access to the original forms. If I turn off javascript, the new form is gone, but the old one is not there either, there is no way to load a thread. I cannot turn off Discussion2, and if I disable javascript it does not fall back to the good old (still pagination broken) Discussion1.
I expect that if this situation is not fixed soon that many users like me will simply abandon slashdot.
Here is what a discussion thread should do: I click "Read More" - the full story comes up along with the entire thread in -1 nested view from start to finish on one single page. Presto, one request to your server, on page to render for my browser, and I GET TO FUCKING READ THE GODDAMN THING! Not sitting there clicking like some trained rat hoping I'll be rewarded with something to read if I click enough times.

Regarding chriscrowley's comment above: I do not have hard thresholds set on my preferences page, yet I still have the issue described in this ticket. See also 1884131.
