The new comment system on slashdot seems to have problems if you are browsing slashdot with Javascript turned off and not logged in. This is with Firefox 2.0.0.9 on Windows XP with SP2.
If I go to read the comments, it only gives a small number of them, and it says to click "here" to get the old style comments. I click there and it gives me the usual bar with 1:xxx comments threaded oldest first with buttons to change or reply. So far, so good.
Now, if I select 0:xxx nested and click change, it switches back to the new system, rather than displaying the additional comments in nested form. This is not right.
I consider reading slashdot with Javascript turned off to be an EXTREMELY IMPORTANT feature for security reasons.
This is something that needs to be fixed right away. If slashdot cannot be read without Javascript, then I will simply have to give up reading slashdot, and that would be unfortunate, as I consider it an important source of news, and I occasionally contribute (but only as an Anonymous Coward for privacy reasons). However, because it is a blog and so very very popular, it is a target for the bad guys, and I will not risk turning JavaScript on for slashdot.
Please make sure that slashdot will ALWAYS work with Javascript turned off and the reader not logged in. Security and privacy are VERY important.
Thank you.
