#3886 Cannot enable comments

I made several journal entries, where comments were initially disabled. Then I decided that it would be better if I would add my journal entires as comments to the first post.
I am trying to keep a cycling journal, so my idea was to have the 1st of each month the first journal entry, and the other days as comments to this entry.

Unfortunately, neither clicking on "Enable comments" nor editing the journal entry and choosing "Comments enabled" from the drop-down menu, does actually enable commenting.

Conditions:
- "User journal"
- "Plain old text"
- "Post (Pay no attention to my musings)"
