#3726 comment count wrong on abbreviated articles

for articles that are abbreviated to just the category,
title, and number of comments on the main page the
article count shows up wrong at times.

example.. today there is an article "Whatever Happened
to the Gaming Mascot?" which when I first saw it said
"7 of 1 comment" then a little later it said "15
comments" and then a little later it said "15 of 7
comments"
