I've found that I've been missing stories on a regular basis.
It's possible that other people never get to see 30% of
your stories
How to reproduce:
I'm a logged in user. My maximum stories on the front
page is set to 30 (can't seem to increase it -- see bug
1175440)
If there are 40 stories created today, I think 25 are actually
displayed. (doesn't seem to correspond to 30).
I get to the bottom of the page reading the stories, and I
continue by clicking on the "Yesterdays news" link at the
bottom of the page and I start seeing yesterday's stories.
The 15 stories made earliest today are NEVER seen. There's
no way to navigate to them (except for maybe a search). For all
purposes, they don't exist.
This continues with old news. Navigating back through the
stories page by page skips any stories > 25 on any day.
This is a HUGE bug.

Can you take a look at this, once search is back up? It sounds wrong to
me but we should check it out -- probably at several points throughout the
day, including shortly before GMT midnight and shortly before your local
midnight (of course feel free to create a test account with a conveniently
located midnight :)

This is still a problem.
1) you must be a logged in user
2) set the articles on home page to highest number possible (seems to be
30)
3) view slashdot homepage. You can't see all articles.
4) clicking yesterday's news skips a bunch of articles and starts viewing
articles before midnight yesterday.
Looking at the slashdot homepage as a logged in user ~ 10:00 pm, I
see articles from 8:56 pm backwards. The bottom most article is
11:56 am today.
**** The posts from midnight yesterday through 11:56 am today can't
be viewed ****
Clicking on the Yesterday's News link takes me to a post at 11:55 pm
yesterday.
However, if I log out, I see articles from 11:45 pm today through 12:39 am
yesterday (default timezone must be different). However, I don't see all
articles in all sections.

Just go to https://slashdot.org/index.pl?issue=20050611, with PT timezone.
Only 25 stories are shown. The final is "The First Annual Underhanded C
Contest". There were about 6 previous stories that day.
I've confirmed gSE returns 25 stories, and displays all of them. In non-issue
mode, also returns 25. Maybe we should just return more stories? Looks like
the artcount is 15, and we are returning 25.

Actually, I think the best solution would be:
add a "more..." link next to the Yesterday link if
all stories couldn't be displayed.
This link would take you to stories 26 through 50 (and possibly
a second "more..." link for stories 51..75)
Failing that, a workaround would be to fix artcount and
increase the maximum viewable stories preference to a
higher value so you could see all the possible stories
(like 99)
