When you cause the password to be mailed to you from
http://slashdot.org/login.pl?op=mailpasswdform , after
successfully getting it mailed, the page is not very
informative. It looks mostly the same, having the input
box for Nickname/UID/Email and the captcha is displayed
again.
It is easy to miss the sentence that says "The password
for <user> was emailed to its registered email address"
and to assume that something went wrong.
The result of correctly entering a username/uid and the
captcha should be the regular login page, with a bold
message saying "The password for <user> was emailed to
its registered email address." Or at the very least the
form for mailing the password should disappear and it
should be clearer that the operation succeeded.

I just got bitten by this. Why, after nearly a year and a
half, is this still a problem?
