So far I've had 5 out of five authors tell me "when I
preview a story, and then click on edit, the story
dissapears."

It took me a few looks to spot what they meant. When
previewing a post, the dispStory template gets called,
and that then gives an option to edit a story:

[% IF full && user.is_admin %]<BR><A HREF="[%
constants.rootdir -%]/admin.pl?op=edit&sid=[%
story.sid %]">[ Edit ]</A>[% END %]

My first thought was, well, that's their fault for
misreading, but my second thought was, yeah, they
have a good point, [ Edit ] is really misleading there,
even though it never occured to me that Edit meant to
edit this post I am now working on.

This seems like an easy fix for someone who knows
what's going on, but that's not me yet.
My only thought is it could be taken care of by doing
something like:
[% IF full && user.is_admin AND CASE != PREVIEW %]
or
Just making a different template for previewing an article.

I tried both of these, but both seemed to fail due mostly
to my current lack of slashcode skills. Some day soon
this'll start to make sense to me.

    Tim, go ahead and fix this. It doesn't affect Slashdot, and
    it shouldn't affect other Slash Sites since authors don't
    need to use submissions, they can just click 'New' from the
    main admin menu. But if someone were to implement a
    submission voting module or something, a site administrator
    may want to enforce it. Plus, it's trivial.
