#2427 category images not displayed in IE

Slash 2.3/2.4
Ed Sanders

IE (IE6 at least) fails to recognise that width="" means
use original width, not width=0, and as such renders all
category images (the inline images with each news
post) as having 0 width and 0 height i.e. invisible.
Mozilla seems to not have this problem.

of course the fix to this is to remove the widht and height
    properties completely

All of slashdot has width, height... so I assume you mean
this for sites installing their own imageS?

Why in the universe ed_g2s thinks this is a priority 9 bug
    is beyond me ;)

Setting this to a reasonable priority (eg, none) and
    assigning it to pudge.

I can confirm the bug, but I'm not sure about the specific
cause. The category images display at the top of the page,
but not in the individual stories. See
    http://www2.gvsu.edu/~haskinb/slashscreen.jpg for an IE
screenshot. Mozilla does not display this behavior.

The problem occurs on Slashdot, but not on Slashcode. I
haven't checked any other Slash-based sites.

I'm running IE 6.0.2x and Mozilla 1.3 on Windows 98.

I don't know what this is referring to. Can someone give me
an example, a URL with sample HTML, a complete IMG tag?

This page shows the problem (tested with IE6 for Windows):

The culprit is the width="" height="" attributes in the topic
    icon IMG tag.

This problem has yet to be resolved and was duplicated in
bug 734708. It seems like it would be an easy fix - disallow
null values for the WIDTH and HEIGHT on an image. Here is
    the problem:

    <IMG SRC="//images.slashdot.org/topics/topicdoj.gif"
    VSPACE="10" ALT="The Courts" TITLE="The Courts">

As you can see, width and height are empty values. This
breaks in Internet Explorer, since IE apparently translates
    blank values as zero.

    Illustration of the problem:
