If slashdot implimented caching correctly so that if a page hasn't changed, it doesn't send it, think of the traffic that would be saved. Especially for archive stories!

This would let a server weather major stories without anyproblem. The server could slow down updating pages, and let remote sites cache.

    For the most part all content is dynamic (and toss in banner ads and it all is). You don't want this sort of data cached.
