I'm currently using the custom entry for this, using the setting discussed here: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/vim_mac/IO7oJCVxkQY/DGGjHXn4HBQJ
However, the setting is lost if I switch to another editor (e.g. textmate).

A preset for MacVim would fix that; another related improvement would be to make the custom setting persistent after switching to another preset and back.

Are you sure you're on the latest Skim?

I don't remember exactly when, but for a while mine has had a MacVim preset (at the very bottom of the list).

I'm assuming these are all hard coded within Skim (rather than detected or registered by the editor itself?).

I definitely agree on the retaining of custom preset settings though (having been trying to learn the ins and outs of Sublime Text 2 recently on some less urgent work)

    Indeed, this *is* a preset.
