Sked version 0.1.1 released

This version contains one small but important bugfix. The bug would cause sked not to run without a valid calendar file. The bug affected all new sked users.

Python chosen for new language

After investigation, I've discovered that PyNcurses is much more complete than I had thought. I am going to use Python going forward.

All the other choices had problems of some sort that simply made them impractical for use.

Sked version 0.0.2 released

Sked now supports a basic form of input for events. This also marks the beginning of the translation project. Sked will be rewritten in either Java or Smalltalk before the next release.

Gearing up for new language

As you may or may not know, I am planning to rewrite sked in a different language very soon. Perl has proven unsuitable for serious OOP. I am currently evaluating three choices for a replacement language: Java, Smalltalk, and Ruby. I know quite a bit about some of these languages and very little about others.

I am doing this evaluation in parallel with current development (the event editing UI). I plan to begin translation immediately after the next release. The next release will happen as soon as the event editing UI provides basic functionality.... read more

Greetings!

Well, after a few days of hacking, I think that sked is getting to the point where people might be interested in it. So I've created a project on sourceforge. I'll make a release shortly... I'm debating whether to make one now, or wait 'till after I've implemented the input UI. Probably it'll be sooner rather than later.

Anyway, i'm looking for help, especially with choosing a new language. Perl is not suited to this kind of program, but all the other languages I can think of are lacking in a key aspect or feature that I consider necessary. See
