I used cut&paste to copy an URL into a pidging window containing a chat using the SIP: protocol.
I then manually edited the URL, and pressed return

Several tests with the receiver of the message showed that the subsequent manuel edits to the URL are being discarded

Example:

Cut & paste of
http://www.google.de/ig?hl=de
to the SIP chat,
remove "ig?hl=de", press return.

My own window shows:
http://www.google.de/
the receiver still gets:
http://www.google.de/ig?hl=de

This ONLY happens via SIP:, switching to a jabber transport works just fine.

    This is a Pidgin GUI bug (if at all). pidgin-sipe, as a protocol plugin, only sees the end-result after you pressed enter.

    Closing as INVALID.

    BTW: if you don't believe me, please run "pidgin --debug". Do your URL test and then search the log file for the text you entered. There you can see what Pidgin/libpurple has send to pidgin-sipe.

    OK, I performed the test using the --debug option;

    $ fgrep 180839 debug.file
    (17:22:45) sipe: sipe_im_send what='<a href="http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=180839&page=1">http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=180839&amp;page=1</a>'
    http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=180839&page=1
    (17:22:54) sipe: sipe_im_send what='<a href="http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=180839&page=1">http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=180839</a>'
    http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=180839&page=1

    very odd. Well, in that case I have to reassign this bug.

    Thanks for verifying.

    According to your example when you edit an URL in Pidgin, you edit the *text*, i.e. what's between <a>..</a>, and not the href= attribute. I think the difference on the other side can be explained by what it shows to the user: the contents of the text or the href= attribute.
