See docs at PS: I had to re-write UnitTestCase (and WebTestCase) in order to make them compatible with the decorator system. See here: http://aperiplus.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/aperiplus/lib/simpletest-extensions/unit-testing.php?view=markup This is more or less a copy-paste of SimpleTest code into another open source repository, with some minor changes. Is that OK? Sorry I should have asked first. I have to do this in order to extend SimpleTest with the test case decorator stuff. Noel |

Hi I've been using a traits-like system of "method injection" in test cases for some time now. See docs at http://aperiplus.sourceforge.net/AperiTestCase.php#decorating-test-cases I think this - or something similar - would be good to add to SimpleTest. What do you think? Noel |

I think sourceforge just went through an upgrade to their UI recently. Perhaps this was a casualty of the transition but is now fixed. Hello, I am trying to download simpletest. When I click the link from here: http://www.simpletest.org/en/download.html, I get a 400 response error. When I click on the SourceForge link, I see no files and no where to download them. Please advise as to the best way to aquire this software as I am anxious to start testing with SimpleTest. -- Jay Sanders http://mindtonic.net |

There are a bunch of decorators, mainly the SelectiveReporter (in reporter.php). If you wrap your pretty test display in that, it will take care of running only the tests and cases referred to in the constructor. > > Thanks for the help! No problem. On the Reporter documentation page ( http://simpletest.org/en/reporter_documentation.html), it says that there is a way to create "more sophistcated GUI displays that allow the selection of individual test cases". I'm very much interested in this, but I'm not entirely sure where to start. I've looked over the API calls, the the methods one can use to overload the HtmlReporter object, but it's not obvious to me how I can go about running an individual test case by clicking on a link. I understand that I can use the makeDry() function to just display all the tests without running them, and make each test linkable. But what is the next step? How can I link to the test results such that only a single test case is executed? Thanks for the help! |

Why do you need mocks? can't you just manually define a test-specific subclass:
class SubclassOfAForTesting extends A {
public function methodToBeRedifined($id) {
}
}
then test the method your are interested on an instance of that?

Subject: [Simpletest-support] SimpleTest PartialMock of abstract classes
Hello,
I'd like to test an abstract class (actually one of the non abstracted
method in the class). I need to manipulate a PartialMock of this class
but PHP type checker is not my friend:
- With my very first attempt, I didn't mocked the abstract methods so
I got a fatal error because my partial mock didn't defined the
abstract methods
- So I mocked the abstract methods but now PHP claims that the mocked
abstract methods signature doesn't match the parent's one...
How can I solve that ?
Here is a code sample:
abstract class A {
public function methodToTest() {
$f = $this->getFactory();
....
}
public function getFactory() {
....
}
abstract public function methodToBeRedifined($id);
}
Mock::generateParital('A', 'ATestVersion', array('getFactory',
'methodToBeRedifined');
class AUnitTest extends UnitTestCase {
function testMethodToTest() {
$f = newMockFactory($this);
$a = new ATestVersion($this);
$a->setReturnValue($f);
....
}
}
Best regards,
Manuel

Hi,
I had a class that had a __destruct method in it ClassA for discussions
ClassB used ClassA but for testing of ClassB I wanted to mock out ClassA so
I did Mock::generate('ClassA') and then in the test case I told ClassB to
use MockClassA by ClassBObj->setClassAInstance(new MockClassA()) . I then
found that the __destruct method from the non mocked ClassA was getting
called in the test. This failed because it relied on something that had been
mocked out.
As a work around I have moved the clean up code from __desctruct to both of
the main work functions. It's not really a big deal if for some reason this
cannot be changed but it wasn't intuitive and is a gotcha I thought worth
asking about.
I am using simpletest 1.0.1
Cheers,
Pete

But yes, SimpleTest has been neglected for the last couple of years due to children and an unwanted management workload. Hi... Alucard wrote: > I am new at SimpleTest and I found one problem. You need to use the newer 1.1 version. You can get the latest version as a source checkout from Sourceforge. As soon as the docs are bought up to date, this will become the official release. SimpleTest 1.1 supports versions PHP 5.0.3 to PHP 6. SimpleTEst 1.0.1 supports versions PHP 4.2.0 to 5.3 as long as you have E_STRICT off. E_STRICT is to deprecate PHP 4 compatibility, which of course we are still supporting in the older version. PHP 4 support will not be completely dropped. A 1.0.2 version is likely to allow an easy upgrade path to 1.1 for people upgrading their installations to PHP 5, but who don't want to break their tests. yours, Marcus |

SimpleTest is designed to work with php4, which does not have the same object model as php5. However, I see no reason for things like: $reporter = &new NoSkipsReporter($reporter); I would be much more apt to use/support SimpleTest if it's code was more standardized and extendable. @Ellery, I would recommend you taking a peak at PHPUnit, which is much more structured and documented (read: better) if you continue using SimpleTest I would recommend changing your error reporting to _only_ include errors/warnings. My 2 cents. -- Elijah On Wed, May 27, 2009 at 12:26 AM, Alucard <alu...@gm...> wrote: > Hi all. > > I am new at SimpleTest and I found one problem. > > When I tried to perform the tutorial posted in SimpleTest, I got a lot of > deprecated warnings as follow: > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line > *74* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line > *89* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line > *238* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line > *260* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line > *266* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line > *277* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * > 110* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * > 112* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * > 466* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * > 470* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * > 529* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * > 547* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * > 594* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\expectation.php* on line > *78* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\simpletest.php* on line > * > 317* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\default_reporter.php* on > line *114* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\default_reporter.php* on > line *119* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\default_reporter.php* on > line *122* > > *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated > in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\default_reporter.php* on > line *127 > > > *I am using PHP 5.3rc2 and nginx. > > Of course I can suppress the deprecated warnings but, are there any other > solutions apart from doing this? > > Thank you in advance. > > > Ellery* > * > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Register Now for Creativity and Technology (CaT), June 3rd, NYC. Hi all. I am new at SimpleTest and I found one problem. When I tried to perform the tutorial posted in SimpleTest, I got a lot of deprecated warnings as follow: *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line *74* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line *89* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line *238* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line *260* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line *266* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\unit_tester.php* on line *277* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * 110* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * 112* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * 466* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * 470* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * 529* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * 547* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\test_case.php* on line * 594* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\expectation.php* on line *78* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\simpletest.php* on line * 317* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\default_reporter.php* on line *114* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\default_reporter.php* on line *119* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\default_reporter.php* on line *122* *Deprecated*: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in *C:\nginx\html\apps\milio\lib\System\simpletest\default_reporter.php* on line *127 *I am using PHP 5.3rc2 and nginx.
