There is one thing, that would help me and probably others a lot if it would be improved and it could be done very easily. When I use simpletest I often dive into the code to understand whats happening, (especially when there is magic going, like with the error_handler). I am using eclipse+PDT for developing. One great thing about eckipse+PDT and many other intelligent IDE's is that they put hyperlinks into the code. So when I want to know what's going on, when I use "click" in a "Test_MyWebTestCase" I just strg+click the word "click" and eclipse jumps to the method definiton. There I see "$this->_browser->click($label)". So I want to see what's going on in this "click" method. But it is not linked. So I have to manually look up what class "_browser" might be, open the file that contains the class, scroll to the right line, which is much more annoying than just clicking. So how can "click" be linked? By telling eclipse what type "$this->_browser" has and this can be done with a phpdoc tag. Adding a /** * @var SimpleBrowser */ before var $_browser; in the WebTestCase class definition solves the problem. If you add such phpdoc tags for private variables in the simpletest code, this could improve the development experience with simpletest for some people. eclipse+PDT and the new Zend Studio, (which is built on eclipse+PDT I think) are popular PHP IDEs and the phpdoc tags would probably help other IDEs as well. Keep und the great work :)! Yours, Perrick ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Perrick Penet (pp11) Date: 2008-09-11 21:23 Message: I now Travis posted a response on the devel-mailing list stating we wouldn't implement this feature request. However I would find it useful as well. As a Eclipse + PDT user, it does make a lot of sound when I'm debugging stuff. I'm not sure it would always be uptodate but I'll fire up a discussion on the relevant mailing-list to check if it'd fit with our "way of doing things".
