Within Addressbook, either clicking on a Group should automatically enable "Show members of selected group" - or more sensibly you would always filter based on the group BUT have a special group called "ALL" (or similar).
I actually added this in 2005, but seems I didn't explain myself very well, because it is still not implemented - so I will try again:
Using Groups in the Addressbook is very klunky at the moment, because you have to (1) click on the Group, and then (2) click on "Show members of selected group".
The easiest solution from your point of view is to remember whether "Show members of selected group" was ticked or not (or perhaps make it a Prefs option).
But the BEST solution is to get rid of that tick-box altogether, and simple have a special "SHOW ALL" group at the top; this group would be selected by default, but the user could click on a real group, and of course it would then show just that group.
