Hi All, I favorably mention your Simple KDE project within the article at the link below. It suggests a simplified default file system arrangement (w/screen-shots). If you have any questions, or I might help in any way, let me know. My Computer, Isn't The Computer, Anymore Thank You Zeek Greko --------------------------------- Celebrate Earth Day everyday! Hello Guys,=20 I am working on creating a localized liveCD distro aimed at newbie users = in India.=20 The entry level PC's being sold in India these days may still have just = 128 MB of RAM.=20 There lies my problem, A KDE liveCD typically needs 256 MB or more to = start up properly. I was even thinking of moving to Xfce/Ice (but then, = they havent been translated to Indian languages as much as KDE has been! = :-( ) I came across simpleKDE, and this looks like the "the desktop" I was = looking for! (I downloaded the Turkix 10.0a version last week, but I = dont think that was simpleKDE?) I have a couple of quick questions,=20 a) Whats the minimum/recommended RAM requirement for simple KDE? (and = Turkix 10.0b) b) When is the stable production release expected? c) Are there any performance benchmark tests anywhere, so that I can = compare it to KDE 3.4.2 or Gnome and XFce etc. ? Many thanks,=20 Vivek |

hello everyone .... i was recently pointed to your website and wanted to provide some input and= =20 ask a couple of questions. first, Plasma is *not* Appeal. Appeal is still going full steam ahead at th= e=20 moment (had another meeting last month, things are Happening), while Plasma= =20 is a separate entity (http://plasma.bddf.ca) second, KDE is a trademarked name, and following social standards within th= e=20 open source world, creating a _fork_ using that same name is highly frowned= =20 upon. at the very least, you may wish to request permission to use the name= =20 "KDE" as your use of it for your project may not be desirable from the KDE= =20 project's perspective. i'm also interested in how you intend to triage improvements made in your=20 project upstream to KDE, and pull improvements from KDE into your project; = if=20 that is the intention at all. personally, i think it would be in everyone's best interests if rather than= a=20 huge fork was made, the "simplekde" team focussed on certain aspects of KDE= =20 and fed improvements there. i just really don't see "simplekde" keeping up= =20 with the mainline project, for one, and it would be nice to see optimizatio= ns=20 and what not fed back into KDE itself. =2D-=20 Aaron J.
