English(short translation): Andrew: I've decided to continue working on this project. I probably will do a things, but quite slow. I also want to create save/load mechanism. For now, I don't want to create GUI. Mick: OK. Please, create it in a function, that accepts (FILE*), thus it will be simpler to implement (later) a client-server model. -----Original Message----- From: "Andrey." <ah...@ya...> To: mic...@ma... Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hello, There is a name clash, with link being defined in link.h (obviously :) ) but also in the standard library header /usr/include/unistd.h . I need to be able to use unistd.h through the python stuff I have been doing. Can we rename the struct link, to something else like obj_link or mlink etc? Does anybody have any objections? I've got the first lot of the python binding to commit if we can get this issure resolved. Thanks, Richard -- Currently Playing: REM - The Great Beyond |

Hello, I have a suggestion, something I'm looking at working on, that we expose an Interface to python, wrapping around the C code, to create objects, fields, object systems, etc, and be able to set outputs and open output windows etc (maybe using SWIG), and then embed an interpreter (with the Standard Python/C API) so that a user can interact on a very direct level with everything through python. It solves a lot of problem, making a command line interface very easy to do, and gives a lot of power to the user. It also shouldn't slow it at all, as all the computational stuff is written in C, it just gives a new way of interacting with the system. Richard -- Currently Playing: The Cure - Wrong Number |

I have compile errors complaining about graphic.c:289: structure has no member named `private_font' .... Anyway is it just me or is this wrong, it doesn't seem to be part of the gtk2 api, looking at the docs. I don't want to change anything in case it's just me being stupid, as I don't know enough about gtk in general. Richard -- Currently Playing: The Cure - Wrong Number |

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back. Everything in that list sounds good. Do we need some sort of general limited implementation of a symbolic algebra system? So we can define calculations in the files, like: field F radial strength 1.234*exp(z)*(cos(x)+sin(y)) end field and it interprets the strength bit and turns it into an expression it can calculate from. For doing something like this yacc/lex would be quite a useful tool. The GUI looks alright. I'm currently making some improvements to the graphing component. So you can scroll and zoom it with the mouse etc, and to make the rendering a bit prettier. Richard -- Currently Playing: Eddie Izzard - Definite Article |

Well, I decided to make a short list of first TODO's we need to perform: 1. Organize command-line driven interface.(e.g. user may enter something like: symphysmodel file.geom ) 2. Make "loger" object and realise it's work with other objects in system.(e.g. in .geom file can be entered something like: mat_dot A x =3D 10 vx =3D 0.1 end mat_dot loger file.log step 100 interface text header "coord, velocity\n" format "%f %f\n" vars A.x,A.vx tailer "data is over..." end loger And in the result user will get file named file.log: coord, velocity 10 0.1 20 0.1 30 0.1 <skipped> data is over... )=20 3. Create the folowing physical objects: Surfaces of different types (planes and triangle systems for begining) Lines of different types (strait line and spline-interpolated curve) External fields (constant,periodical,exponential... and network-based) General massive body (with mass and tensor of inertion) Frequent-used simple objects (levers[=F0=FB=F7=E0=E3=E8], pulleys[=E1=EB=EE=EA=E8],ropes[=E2=E5=F0=E5=E2=EA=E8]). External force sources. Create GUI - with graphical and text-based editors of initial state and real-time drawing of the experiment. Also we need to be able to create video clip about system's life. 4. Organize array support in .geom files, like this: array AAA[6,3,8] type mat_dot x[i,j,k] =3D i y[i,j,k] =3D j*5 z[i,j,k] =3D x[i,j,k] + y[i,j,k] end array may be use yacc/lex for analising of source files? For open discussion:=20 What should be added to this list, or ,may be, what should be removed? Should we organize support for partial differential equestions - driven fields? What do you think about this kind of GUI?(see attachment) |

I would go for splitting into library dependent and independent sections, as it'd be nice to have a KDE/QT version eventually. Richard |

I've done some work to generalize the concept of a field, so it can easily be extended to add new fields, and the existing ones, Gravity and E-field can be turned on and off, eg. simulating free fall, a field which acts with strength 9.8 N/kg in z-direction, with Newtonian Gravity turned off. Fortunately it runs at the same speed (in fact even faster with some other changes I made). It uses function pointers so general field strength functions can be used, I haven't done any work yet so this can be written to and imported from a file, but that is to come. I'll commit this later tonight, unless anyone objects. Richard -- Currently Playing: Radiohead - Just |
