Sorry it's taken me a while to get back.

Everything in that list sounds good.

Do we need some sort of general limited implementation of a symbolic
algebra system? So we can define calculations in the files, like:

field F
radial
strength 1.234*exp(z)*(cos(x)+sin(y))
end field

and it interprets the strength bit and turns it into an expression it
can calculate from. For doing something like this yacc/lex would be
quite a useful tool.

The GUI looks alright.

I'm currently making some improvements to the graphing component. So you
can scroll and zoom it with the mouse etc, and to make the rendering a
bit prettier.
