So in the original kernel at the sourceforge site a button press will be reported as a release to user-space and vice versa. The patch just inverts that to the correct behavior. > * 'reproduce this with a non-nfs root' ? this implies that I can have a > NFS root? never thought about that, sounds intrigue-ing :-) Yes, you can have an nfs-root since this is just a normal linux-feature. See the boot-commandline below. Since the current boot loader does not support command-lines you have to put it into the compiled kernel. I have written a small patch (see the mailing list archive) that does a fallback to the normal flash-image if it does not find an nfs-root in time. Without the patch it will fall back to floppy-boot which is not really what you want with a webpad. ;) > * 'set the console to serial'? I know what you mean, but *how* do I do that? I use the following configs related to that. Note for some reason having two consoles does not work for me (therefore the config_vt_console is not set). CONFIG_CMDLINE="root=/dev/nfs mem=64M nfsroot=/simpad/nfs/default ip=:::::usbf:dhcp console=ttySA" # CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE is not set CONFIG_SERIAL_SA1100_CONSOLE=y CONFIG_SERIAL_CORE_CONSOLE=y > Meanwhile I've another problem: after wake-up the networking stuff seems > to terrible slow! I have seen that behavior with the usb-net driver and thought until now that it is due to some bad initialization of the usbnet driver, either at the simpad or the host side. Hi, which device is being used for the touchscreen? With the iPAQ it is H3600_ts and H3600_tsraw. Which devices are bieng used on the SIMpad? /dev/touchscreen/ucb1x00 or /dev/fb0 or /dev/H3600_ts or /dev/ts and /dev/tsraw etc.... All these devices are under /dev, but I don't know which is really being used. I would like to get OPIE working on the SIMpad. I get a calibration screen, but the screen isn't accepting input. I think it's a device thing. Thanx, Chris -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln! Fotogalerie online mit GMX ohne eigene Homepage! |

Hi, the ooops in the switches code is a bit nastier than I thought. Only nice thing is that the trace is always the same. I can unreliable produce it by pressing random switches a bit faster. But it is not a definite sequence of keypresses. Seems to be race if I put some load on the system. :( The code in switches_ucb1x00_handler and switches_event seems to be okay. Also the last/this values are okay after the invert-patch I sent erlier to account for the different wiring of the switches. I have no idea why the crash occurs in the kmalloc. Looks like something points to the void in some other part and kills the malloc-stuff as a side-effect. Strange thing is that it always affects the same routines. So it should/could be related to the switches code. Anyone has a better eye than me? And could someone try to reproduce this with a non-nfs root. Note, you need to set the console to serial (should be default for the current development kernels in future anyway!) to see the ooops. -Peter. -- N'oubliez pas de me rendre mon crayon. ------------------------------- Email: Pet...@em... |

Here is what I have to say. :) Well, after I have completed the apm-stuff an easy solution is to just call an xrefresh after wakeup in user-space. I do not know the panel-driver code good enough to understand what is happening, i.e. where to do a pm-callback in the kernel with what function. But a user-space xrefresh should be okay too. -Peter |

Hi Albert, I will try to find a solution with xrefresh. The only thing is we have to call it after everything has woken up. Your second problem is more or less solved. When you check out the file /etc/switches/ then you should find the following script: #!/bin/sh case "$1" in pressed) set my_xkeybrd `ps -wx | grep -v grep | grep xvkbd` find_id=$2 if [ "$find_id" -gt 0 ] ; then kill -9 $find_id & else xvkbd -compact & fi ;; released) ;; esac This script should work. If not restart the switchd Best regards Juergen Albert Huitsing wrote: > Hello all, > > I'm new to this list, so please forgive me if these topics have been > addressed before. Hi Chris, what do you mean with monitor mode??? The function of serload is very easy. It sends a request to the simpad and if it receives the wright characters the it will starts to send the image. To solve this problem you have to turn on your debugger and go step by step through it. I haven't got any port-replicator or USB adapters to test this. In the mean time Walti made a new bootloader which is NE2000 compatible. Then you can download the images over ethernet. I will try to find a solution for Alberts questions. For the xrefresh: We have to find a solution that we can call xrefresh after a wake up. I have made a script with the connection of switch demon and the virtual keyboard. Try the following: /etc/switches/3 #!/bin/sh case "$1" in pressed) set my_xkeybrd `ps -wx | grep -v grep | grep xvkbd` find_id=$2 if [ "$find_id" -gt 0 ] ; then kill -9 $find_id & else xvkbd -compact & fi ;; released) ;; esac |

Hi all, I'm having a small problem with serload. At home on my PC everything works fine. But on my Laptop the image upload seems to always go into monitor mode (two progress bars show up) and it asks me what I prefer to do. If upload the image a second time it doesn't go into monitor mode and works fine. Since I don't want to upload the image twice (once takes long enough), how can I tell the monitor mode to just take my newly uploaded image? Another question regarding serload... When I use my USB->Serial Adapter on my Laptop the upload doesn't work at all. I have symlinked /dev/ttyS4 with my /dev/ttyUSB0 and minicom etc. work fine with that, but serload isn't getting the signal to upload. Any ideas? BTW, the first problem is when using the Port Replicator of my Laptop since it has no serial port on board. Who's going to answer Albert Huitsing's questions about Keyboard Button and Display refresh? I'm interessted too. When I turn my SIMPad on after a while of inactivity I only see "snow". After a "xrefresh" everything is fine. FYI, I am working on QT-Embedded, respective OPIE on my SIMPad. Familiar 0.6.1 boots fine with Busybox after a couple of changes in the Rootdisk. I had to replace the Busybox version of "mount" with the original one to get loop-devices to mount. My startup script (jffs2-Partition) still doesn't work at boottime, but manually everything is fine. The status of OPIE is that it boots and shows the calibration screen, but the touchscreen accepts no input. I have just recompiled qt-embedded with a customized "qwsmouse_qws.cpp". I will inform you of my findings ;-) Regards, Chris Martin -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln! Fotogalerie online mit GMX ohne eigene Homepage! |

Hi everyone, this now a more serious problemthat we have got here. First at all about time settings: When anyone do a hardware reset the time must be set new. After a software reset the time should be recoverable. Similar to winCE. I have had also the same idea like chris to set the time after a reset to the last saved time. After the booting we must call a user-program where the user can set the= current time. I think that is how it should be! Peter, you have asked about the designer of the simpad about time. The answer is simple. In PC or notebook you have gota backup battery for the clock. In case of the simpad they have tried to save every where e.g. sou= nd 12bit mono. Thats why we haven't got any kind of backup batteryor something similar. About the reset: That is a problem of the bootloader. The last reset will cause the ereas= ing of the persistentpartion of winCE. So if we have saved data under linux in the last MB then this data will be lost. The other reset with pressingone button is the same without ereasing the= last 1MB of FLASH. This whole resetstuff will be change if we port one of the commen bootloa= ders. Bets regards -J. Hi, I have no time to actually debug your script until the weekend. But since I had some problems with the ramfs the attached script and fstab (your script relies on fstab to mount ramfs) might help. Note the noauto-option. I think your problems are related to the fact that ramfs is not set up correctly. The attached S01linuxrc is aligned to the boot-process of familiar 0.6x. Regarding the date at the end of your script: what is the purpose of this? It will set the time to the time of the last sucessfull boot/shutdown. That is never what you want. Which leads me to a question to the one that designed the Simpad about the time. The sa1110 has an internal time-source that is reset in case of a certain type of reset. With the current kernel doing a reboot (either by software with the reboot-command or pressing the reset-button) the time is reset (even if one uses the 'hwclock --sys-to-hc' call first). This could be either due to the fact the internal arm-clock is reset unconditionally during a reboot or that there is some kernel-problem. Can someone confirm that this is no kernel-problem but intention? If this is a kernel bug, I am happy to track it down. And I assume you can initiate such a clock reset by one of the additonal reset methods described in the WinCE manual (hard reset initiated by pressing the button next to the start-button, factory-reset initiated by pressing the method described above and additionally pressing the keyboard-key below the cursor-keypad). What is the meaning of that and what are the consequences in linux? Hi Juergen, the problem is probably that I'm starting the script too early in the boot process. I include my code in the S01linuxrc file in /etc/rcS.d. Hi Juergen, I don't know if the rootdisk-image has been changed since you took off to Australia, but there are no "etc_image" and "dev_image" in /usr/share. And I never found the simpad.startup script you keep talking about. It seems the rootdisk-image has changed quite a bit since you've been gone ;-) I've been working on such a startup script, but I'm having problems with having everything setup at first boot. After the initial boot it's no problem having things setup manually or via script, but during boot-time it doesn't seem to work. Regards, Chris Martin > Hi Christopher, > > check out the file simpad.startup script. Hi Christopher, check out the file simpad.startup script. There you should find all the mounting stuff for jffs2. In /usr/share you will find the etc_image and dev_image. Those two will be mounted to /etc and /dev Best regards -J. >-- Original Message -- >From: Christoph Kecher <ke...@gm...> >To: sim...@li... >Subject: [Simpad-general] Filesystem read-only >Date: Sun, 26 Jan 2003 20:53:03 +0100 > > >Hi Guys ! > >I installed Linux on my Simpad SL4 following your instructions and it >worked really great ! >Thanks for your great work ! > >Now I'm facing a problem: My "/" folder and all other files in the >system are mounted >read only. Hi Christoph, Welcome on board. The answer to your your question is quite easy. The filesystem is CRAM - which is read-only. In order to modify the system files you have to set up the JFFS-Partition on your SimPAD and mount /etc, /root.... on to it. This way you get more flash space (read-write) (~15MB) and you can modify files in /etc and /root. Try 'mount' and see if a jffs2-Partition is already mounted. If not do the following: /sbin/insmod /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/fs/jffs2/jffs2.o /sbin/mtd/eraseall /dev/mtd3 mount -t jffs2 /dev/mtdblock3 /mnt1 Now you should have a jffs2-Partition mounted! Now you need to get the existing /etc and /root into an image file that you can mount read-write at boot time: [/etc image] /bin/dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt1/etc_image bs=1k count=1024 /sbin/mkfs.ext2 -Fv -m 0 -N1024 /mnt1/etc_image -b 1024 mkdir /mnt1/etc mount -o loop /mnt1/etc_image /mnt1/etc cp -dpR /etc/* /mnt1/etc umount /mnt1/etc [/root image] /bin/dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt1/root_image bs=1k count=1024 /sbin/mkfs.ext2 -Fv -m 0 -N1024 /mnt1/root_image -b 1024 mkdir /mnt1/root mount -o loop /mnt1/root_image /mnt1/root cp -dpR /root/* /mnt1/root cp -dpR /root/.* /mnt1/root umount /mnt1/root I mount my jffs2-partition to /usr/local - "mount -t jffs2 /dev/mtdblock3 /usr/local" - or put it in your /etc/fstab Then I mount /usr/local/etc_image to /etc and /usr/local/root_image to /root - "mount -o loop /usr/local/etc_image /etc" "mount -o loop /usr/local/root_image /root" Now you should be able to configure your system at runtime ;-) Chris Martin > Hi Guys ! > > I installed Linux on my Simpad SL4 following your instructions and it > worked really great ! > Thanks for your great work ! > > Now I'm facing a problem: My "/" folder and all other files in the > system are mounted > read only. Hi Guys ! I installed Linux on my Simpad SL4 following your instructions and it worked really great ! Thanks for your great work ! Now I'm facing a problem: My "/" folder and all other files in the system are mounted read only. So I can't change any files or install other software. Does anyone know a solution to this ? Thank you very much in advance for your help ! Best Regards, Christoph Kecher |

Sorry my fault. SL4 -> 64MB. I know these was a problemof the old kernel source in 2.5 they have chang= ed the flashmem detection. Actually we didin't build a image for the smaler version. Nearlly all datas are available over the proc file system. It is not easy to make a image for all devices. In the beginning we made an image for teh SL4it was much easier to develope with pcmcia and enough= RAM and FLASH. We are still on it to develope an LINUX system for everyone. I hope that will answer one or two questions. -J. >-- Original Message -- >From: Peter Pregler <Pet...@em...> >To: sim...@li... >Subject: [Simpad-general] simpad versions >Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 20:37:02 +0100 > > >On Mon, 20 Jan 2003 11:07:15 +1100 >jue...@fr... wrote: > >> As I know the following devices were produce: >> >> WP-50 for the swiss telecom same like CL4 with 16MB flash 16MB ram no pcmcia >> T-sinuspad for the german telecom 16MB flash and 32MB ram and pcmcia >> siemens cl4 same like WP-50 >> siemens sl4 32MB flash and 16MB ram and pcmcia > >Make that 64MB for the SL4. Apart from writing to memory and see what happens: is there a different way to find out how much memory is in the simpad? Also CPU-stepping and such data is not really available? -Peter |
