Hi, I think they are quite some people watching this, but unfortunately my simpad is also gathering dust in the corner (and i'm waiting for the new Nokia device). Hi there, Zecke changed the default kernel for simpad builds to 2.6.11-hh2oe1_cvs, does that mean than it now works at least as well as good ol' 2.4? What's its status? hi there i would like to know what the current status of a 2.6 port for the simpad is. http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=5152871&forum_id=19500 makes me believe its already there. which kerneltree should i use and where can i get it? i'm not interrested in any opie/qpe stuff, i just want a actual kernel to play around with directfb on it. i'd also like to know if the sound-problems (never worked for me with opie ~0.8 and 2.4.19-rmk7-jpm2) are still there. i read about the license issues about the mq200 fbdev.. but do not bother, since i do not life in usa. ;) in worst case the driver has to be rewritten from scratch. it seems to me that this project is nearly dead, but since there are no compareable devices out there (size of screen) i see no other choice. thanks in advance for any answers. i am subscribed to this list so you do not need to cc me regards -- Joachim Steiger |

Got it! QWS_KEYBOARD has to be set to 'Buttons' now. No other showstopper found so far, but the main problems persist: - crackling sound before first suspend or when touching the mixer - no opie sound - buttons are hanging sporadically after first suspend (tetrix) - inaccurate touchscreen The touchscreen handling can be improved by setting pthres pmin=400 in /etc/ts.conf geron >> So why are these keys not working? Guylhem The internal RS232 port has TTL level. The external has RS232 level shifters with +- 12V level. Try the internal 5V supply. Ordered 2 to get a reducted rate and to try to solder it to another device too :-) (maybe to my zaurus 6000 sled?) Now I need to figure out if the simpad external serial port gives TTL (3.3V) or RS 232 (5.0 V). opensimpad says 12V but I don't think so - will do some measurements. I also need to get 5v 1.2A to power the gsm module (it normally needs much less, but the specs says you should be able to give that for peak demand) I also have to try to find where I can hook it up, at the moment I have no idea. Since I rarely use IrDA, never the smartcard, and very little the external port (only for flash/bootloader), these are my candidates. The external serial port is the best candidate since there's also audio ports and I would like GSM voice functions as well as GPRS, so it may go there with a switch to toggle between functions. To try that, today I took my old S25 cable (I'm a big fan of siemens hardware :-) and soldered it to do some voltage and amperage measures on the external serial port. So you see it is a hack in its very early stages. Hopefully I will be able to use the simpad speaker and microphone for the GSM module. In the worst case, the audio will be diverted to the bluetooth chip after being encoded by an ADC, so that I can use a bluetooth headset with my "gsm simpad". Ideally I would be able to use both (default to internal when no bluetooth headset is available), but I'm not sure how to do that without using an hardware switch. Tille, any suggestion? However there's a bug in my 2.4.29 kernel that prevents pcmcia from working and keep the green led on even on suspend. I am working on fixing it. It is unrelated to bluetooth and doesn't happens with a 2.4.25 >> Did you use some of my instructions/patches? I did mix our approach. I best like the result that each of our separate previous tries. I kept my approach of a separate board + connector but used your BT chip = - much better than my previous chip (Siemo - couldn't make it work. Firmwar= e problem?) See : http://externe.net/temp/simpad-bluetooth.gif Much simpler, and easier to connect. No need to solder on the simpad boar= d too. (http://externe.net/temp/burnt.jpg - when you miss it like I did you don't fry the whole simpad :-) Now working on adding GSM/GPRS. I may have to kick the IRDA or the external serial port for that. |

From testing the latest OE-based images I did, I see one big showstopper for the next OpenSIMpad release: the SIMpad keys are definitely not working!! Does anybody have an idea where this could come from (kernel? qte? qpe?), and how I could diagnose the problem more precisely? In the 0.9.0-rc1 images Chris made, the keys were still working, but they didn't work anymore in the builds I did a few weeks after. >I've put a recent OpenSIMpad build from OE on >http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/opensimpad/ There are a few more problems I see: - wellenreiter 2 wants Wireless Extension 17 whereas OpenSIMpad kernel is WE16 (should be easy to fix, just patch opie-wellenreiter so that it disables some of its features depending on the WE version... I don't even know if it really implements some WE17-specific features) - dropbear (ssh server) asks for a passwd for root (patch not applied in OE?) If there are some tester over there, do you see any other problem/showstopper |

I don't think any of us want to become maintainer by himself, but we all have different interest. I do the 2.4.29 kernel, you do the opensimpad builds, etc. maybe we could all go on loosely? Personally I don't intend to stop using my simpad soon. Now now I have bluetooth working, and sandisk 128Mb+wifi almost working, and a wavecom GSM module that's waiting on my desk :-) Moreover, having a working dual boot with wince would be an interesting challenge, or adding more memory, or tweaking the bootloader, etc. It's definitely a hack-friendly machine. Hi, > Right, we both sold our SIMpads. The first one who regularly submits > sane SIMpad patches to oe...@ha... gets entitled official > maintainer :) > Well, I haven't sold my SIMpad yet. But since I haven't had any/much time in the past 6 months my SIMpad is just gathering dust. I probably won't get any extra time in the near future either, so I will sell my SIMpad with some extras (Tatonka Navigator padded pouch, Network card, Psion Gold Card Modem). If any one is interested just let me know. It would be ideal if someone wanting to commit to further development could buy it from me. Since I have a JTAG soldered on-board it's destined for development purposes. ;-) Sorry guys that this may sound devistating for the project. But I think there are much better candidates than myself out there anyway. I will continue to maintain the homepage if I get updates of the status and release of images. Unless someone wants to take over the opensimpad.org domain. I'll still be around though. Since I also have a wrt54g and an ipaq2210 we may see each other again in one of the projects concerning these devices. Regards, Chris Martin -- +++ NEU: GMX DSL_Flatrate! I changed the topic and removed openzaurus-users@ since it's getting SIMpad specific. > Since Mickey and Chris seem to have sold their SIMpads, I don't know who > becomes the official maintainer... Right, we both sold our SIMpads. I've put a recent OpenSIMpad build from OE on http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/opensimpad/ Since Mickey and Chris seem to have sold their SIMpads, I don't know who becomes the official maintainer... Fred |
