When I install the opie image onto my simpad, it
doesn't get into x and I get an Opie not found error

The last line on the screen reads:

file or directory

You probably have a 16MB device like - T-Sinus Pad or SIMpad
CL4.
OPIE doesn't run on these devices at the time. You will have
to use a TinyX image for these devices.
