Some bugs are solved, and improvements introduced in 3D images thumbnails.
An online tutorial is available at http://support.svi.nl/wiki/SidbTutorial. It is quite old, but still useful. Contributions to update it are welcome!
SIDB is currently used in research projects like the EU FP6 3D-genome (http://3dgenome.uva.sara.nl) or AUTOMATION (http://www.pfid.org/AUTOMATION).
Users can be authenticated using 'sessions', which allows a nicer login screen and a real, 'clean' logout. Using the check_user program, provided on the sidb.sf.net website, users can be authenticated through PAM, therewith allowing one to use the same password in SIDB as on the box the server runs on. The imagetype 'multipage' was added. Files that are older than a preset limit can now be compressed (using gzip). Sizebars are automatically generated when enough information is known. A number of bugs were fixed.
The php scripts at the heart of the Scientific Image Database have now been nicely documented thanks to phpxref. Find the documentation at http://sidb.sourceforge.net/phpxref-sidb/
Apart from a couple a bug fixes this release adds 'projects'; folder-like structures in which you can organize images. This version also runs on Mac OS X (at least on 10.1) and there is a new 'skin' for the screen-estate-deprived among us.
SIDB is a web-driven image database. It's main purpose is the archiving of 3-D images generated by confocal microscopes. To generate thumbnails and mpeg movies to view the 3-D images through the browser, SIDB uses the Huygens software. A freeware version with all the functionality needed by SIDB is now available at http://www.svi.nl/Download/download.html
Herewith the full functionality of SIDB becomes available to everyone.
