Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi John, For some reason I cannot email to the request email address. So I'll = list my requests here and if you could be so kind to add them that would = be much appreciated. 1) Locate \ Highlight a feature based on data stored in its dbf file. I = know its been requested before but its something I need. 2) Select multiple features at once, instead of queryPoints(x, y) - make = it queryPoints(sx, sy, ex, ey) and everything in that area is selected. Also, if I were to have any say in the matter, I would build in support = for Mid Mif since its closely related to Shapefiles (seperate data and = graphics files), its common, and to add, its text based so it should = snuggle in nicely with what you have so far (at least I think so). What needs to be done before we start adding bitmap support is add support for datum/projection conversions. Displaying the bitmaps are pretty easy, placing them properly within the context of the larger map and with the proper geometric "adjustments" (skew, rotation) is the difficult part. I want to get the conversion methods into the next development version, but I'm not sure if with everything else that's on the to-do list for the next version if it'll be reasonable to add in bitmaps yet. I think I'm going to have to play that one by ear for now.<br> <br> The conversion code will need to be added before any more vector formats are added as well. All other (documented) vector formats that I'm aware of carry their datum/projection information with them. The shape format doesn't carry any information about it's datum/projection (in the official whitepaper) so it's pretty easy to just display the file and not worry about all that because the user *should* already be aware of it. I'm not sure if there is any reliable documentation on the format of the .prj file that some ESRI packages create, if you know of any, please let me know.<br> <br> John<br> <br> Rife, Ryan wrote:<br> <blockquote type="cite" cite="mid...@or..."> <meta http-equiv="Context-Type" content="text/html; charset=us-ascii"> <div> <p> <span>Any plans to add GeoTIFF support into SDN? I'm sure I'm going to miss some feature that someone has asked for, don't take it personally, please post it again to remind me. v1.2 preliminary feature list 1. Editing of feature and database records. This includes adding and removing records. 2. The ability to color (line width, line type, fill type...) specific features according to a value in the db. 3. ASP.Net server control to compliment the forms custom control. 4. Add some type of scale property so that those of you who need thresholding can implement it in your applications. 5. Mouse wheel support for zoom. (this needs .Net 1.1, which I'll be moving to for this release) 6. Shapefile export. 7. Datum / measurement unit / ellipsoid transformations (a direct port of Geotrans to C# maybe?). 8. Ability to show points as fonts or bitmaps. 9. Binary plugins with a plugin SDK. I'm going to augment the IMapLayer interface with a plugin architecture that will allow binary only file reader/writer plugins (not GPL). To me this is the appropriate way to make a buck or two from an open source project. We do need to eat after all. :) Did I miss anything? |

Your requests are noted, I'm planning on making a list of features for v1.2 and I'll post it to this list when I've gotten it nailed down. As far as that threshold stuff goes, please take a look at the email on this list from me to Ryan explaining why I think thresholds at this time are a bad idea at the GIS namespace level. It seems that I needed to do a little more polishing on Beta 2 than I realized. It'll be out today or tomorrow. Thanks! Cool ! As for the non-beta or near future,..what's intended ? Would love to see following on your short-term implementation list: * edit database properties * write a shapefile from user drawn elements (start with empty 'shapefile' and draw internaly) * I think the proper term is threshold,...visible only between certain min max zoomfactor TTYL, Me. -----Original Message----- From: sha...@li... So I built an application that loads a shapefile to a map and then cache's the imaplayer that was added to the map to a collection. If I attempt to add the imaplayer to a new map object it will render the map properly, however if I attempt to zoomin, the zoomin function does the math properly but the screen doesn't actually draw the shapefile zoomed in. Any ideas on how to fix this?? =20 Here's some pseudo code of what I'm doing: =20 System.Collections.ArrayList layers =3D new System.Collections.ArrayList(); =20 System.Drawing.Bitmap mapImg =3D new System.Drawing.Bitmap(500,500); ShapeDotNet.GIS.Map myMap =3D new ShapeDotNet.GIS.Map(); layers.add(myMap[myMap.Add(@"c:\mylayer.shp")]); myMap.Draw(mapImg); =20 ShapeDotNet.GIS.Map newMap =3D new ShapeDotNet.GIS.Map(); newMap.Insert(0,layers[0]); newMap.MapMetrics.UpdateMetrics(); //I exposed the mapmetrics so I can monkey with the numbers newMap.Draw(mapImg); //this works ok =20 newMap.ZoomIn(50,50); //this works internally (viewport is correct) newMap.Draw(mapImg); //this doesn't work, it is not drawing the viewport, appears to only be the extent =20 //finish =20 =20 |

I haven't had any problems loading polygon layers outside of the SDN viewer, besides getting some random file access errors. And I'm currently using SDN in VS 2k3 using the .net 1.1 runtimes. |
