Course, support for this is a good reason to finally support opening of arbitrary connections - ones not based on any of the connection settings in the preferences :)

Though for that to work, you'd probably need to define some default settings (nick, username, etc) for such arbitrary connections, or maybe use the settings of the currently active/frontmost connection, or the first defined connection in the preferences.
