Hello,
I am not a developer, though I do have a little bit of programming backgrou=
nd from a long time ago.
I would like to find out if sfWiki might work for me, to take care of a cer=
tain need--and if so, how I would go about using it.
I am trying to set up a pre- and post- conference discussion space. I woul=
d like people to be able to post papers which others could then annotate, a=
s well as giving each participant a sort of home page where they could say =
things more informally, which, again, the other participants could comment o=
n. I don't know a lot about Wiki, but it looks like something like Wiki co=
uld work very well for this.
Ideally, I would like all the participants to be able to read and write to =
any page at any time. But I would not want non-participants to be able to =
change the pages, though it would be fine for others to be able to read the=
m. Does this make sense?
Does it seem to you that sfWiki would do what I need? And if so, how would=
I go about using it? Ideally, I would like for someone to be able to go t=
o our website and from there, be able to get to a sort of a map of conferen=
ce-related change-able pages. Is anything like this possible, for someone =
who doesn't have extensive development experience, or much in the way of a =
budget?
I am woefully ignorant about the simplest of things: what does it mean for=
something to be installed at SourceForge? what sort of server would be si=
milar? what is a MySQL database? Is that something that I would need to h=
ave on my own computer, or would it need to be on the server that hosts our=
website? what is CVS?
Is it possible for someone of my limited experience to use sfWiki, or is th=
ere something else you know about that would be more appropriate for me?
Thank you,
Kye Nelson
