The following line, placed between the two current RewriteRules, seems to work for action/TopicName URLs: RewriteRule ^(.*)/(.*)$ $1.php?topic=$2 [L] I haven't tested it thoroughly. Use at your own risk :) -_Quinn |

> Hence my request that searching for a page that does not exist would > offer the create option. So: See a name you want a page for, select it, > paste it in the search box, search, hit create. I am not totally opposed to having the search results page include a 'create topic <searchtext>' link; others have suggested that it may be a good idea. I strongly believe, however, that it's better to link to too much than to too little; it helps you pick out what you need to add (especially with the `missing links' section on the info page), and I believe it encourages participation, as well as connectivity in the Wiki. I will consider implementing this an option. So all of you think that the view/TopicName URL style is a good one, and that the sfWiki, if at all possible, should be changed so that all the links it generates (particularly from the search engine) should be changed to reflect it. Tim to a greater extent and Bill to a lesser want (the option) to eliminate mentions of the web from the interface. Tim also thinks it would be a Good Idea only to link WikiNames which already have page; I don't, but I'm willing to see if it's possible to provide this as an option, as well. Finally, a third option to include create links from the search (Provided the term searched for /is/ a WikiTopic. It gets too messy, otherwise.). These qualify as 'feature requests' rather than 'bugs', I think, and I'll enter them in the sfWiki tracker as such sometime tonight. I'll look at the rewriting rules tonight, and if view/TopicName is easy to add 'read' support for, I'll roll that into release 3.5. (Where 'write' support would be changing the sfWiki to generate that style of link, as above.) Does that sound like a fair summary/plan? -_Quinn PS: While I would hope/think everyone named in the cc: is on the devel list, I felt I should forward it there in case someone with an opinion has been lurking (or, to my shame, forgotten). :) |

" Initial Comment: I tried to get a thumbnail that links to an image. no joy. I tried to make a %http://example.com/-->Link like this% but my URL needed to include %s in it. No joy. It needs a way to stop and start wiki formatting. <html> <a href="foo">like this</a> </html> might be a good way. Thoughts? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You know, % is used in URLs to escape characters like space, isn't it? Would it make more sense to use $ as the delimiter? (I don't /think/ I've seen a URL with $ in it...) " Feedback on this idea? -_Quinn PS: Blaforge, the e-mail address you used to subscribe to sfwiki-devel looks like a typo, which is why I cc'd you, instead. Let me know if you get extra copies. Tim, I cc'd you because I can not for the life of me remember if SourceForge automagically emails you when the bug you've submitted is updated. (If it is, let me know. Thanks.) |

Is that something that I would >need to have on my own computer, or would it need to be on the server that >hosts our website? what is CVS? Sourceforge is a particular hosting service for open source development projects. It sounds like you need to install this on your own host/webserver (where you are already hosting your web pages). Most web hosts will have mysql or something similar already installed, and php which is required for sfWiki. If this is the case, all you need to do is download and install the sfWiki php scripts as per installation instructions. >Is it possible for someone of my limited experience to use sfWiki, or is >there something else you know about that would be more appropriate for me? The only problem is going to be in setting things up. You must be at least minimally comfortable getting web server services hosted and installed (you'll need to create database tables and install php scipts). This should be trivial for a "webmaster" or any friends you may have that are relatively savvy in web hosting. You may also be able to ask your web hosting service to install sfWiki for you. Finally, you can ask for help on this list. However, I don't know how willing most on this list will be in helping with the many minutia needed to complete the process. As a last option, you can ask someone on this list (I highly suggest the author, Todd Miller) to help, perhaps for a small consulting fee. In any case, once you have it installed, sfWiki is remarkably maintenance free from a software standpoint. You manage the website's content through a web browser and usually don't need to muck around with your web server or software at all. -iain _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hello, I am not a developer, though I do have a little bit of programming backgrou= nd from a long time ago. I would like to find out if sfWiki might work for me, to take care of a cer= tain need--and if so, how I would go about using it. I am trying to set up a pre- and post- conference discussion space. I woul= d like people to be able to post papers which others could then annotate, a= s well as giving each participant a sort of home page where they could say = things more informally, which, again, the other participants could comment o= n. I don't know a lot about Wiki, but it looks like something like Wiki co= uld work very well for this. Hi, I run a SourceForge based site so I was interested in seeing what sfwiki was all about. I tried to create a new acct on the hosted webpage, but my username kept being rejected with the error: "'Spaceman' is not a valid Wikiname". If this is not a bug please let me know. I'd still like to give it a whirl. I have also submitted a bug report to your project page. I know that sourceforge really needs a much easier system of creating sourceforge hosted websites (the scp/ssh requirement I think is just too steep for most people to deal with comfortably). sfWiki really fills a need! I suppose you can now officially put this on your resume: "Open source guru: heading sfWiki, a top 50 most active open source project on Sourceforge.net" :) At the very least, its worth treating yourself to a good meal and a big beer! I'm glad to hear you're interested in sfWiki! Unfortunately, Iain and I are smack in the middle of transferring the old JOS Wiki to sfWiki, which means some of the neat features at http://wiki.jos.org (note: we haven't imported the full set of content yet) hasn't been backported to the sfWiki (CVS) tree. Translation: http://wiki.jos.org is running sfWiki (at jos.sourceforge.net), but the sfWiki you'll be running from CVS won't do everything it does -- or have as many bugs (hopefully!). I wouldn't recommend using the sfWiki from the tarball -- it's out-of-date, waiting for me to finish this move and make an official 'release.' > Currently there's no web page on the quickutil project, so that's a > good place to put the sfwiki, at least to start with. The installation instructions linked to from http://sfwiki.sourceforge.net are out-of-date; only follow them so far as to CVS sfWiki, and then use the CVS instructions, which work for me (when I test them from a clean install.) > Being very weak in Unix, I'm sure I'll be hitting your help list. from: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sfwiki/ A PHP & MySQL -based Wiki developed for use on SourceForge sites. To sign up, drop us a line at sfw...@li..., or post to the Developers forum. Todd & Iain, SFWIKI is very timely. Marvelous good! Not being strong on Unix, working with a sourceforge-specific implementation will no doubt be very helpful. I can't imagine a better system for Open Source documentation/web than a wiki wiki. It really opens things up to everyone! We're doing XP on the jxunit project http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?JxUnit and starting to rework the jxQuick project http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?JxQuick as well. I like the idea of doing more on wiki wiki, but I'd rather not impose on c2--I suspect it is not appropriate. We've got several projects at sourceforge: jxquick, quickutil, quicktests and jxunit. Currently there's no web page on the quickutil project, so that's a good place to put the sfwiki, at least to start with. Being very weak in Unix, I'm sure I'll be hitting your help list.
