Community Manager tasks

Daily:

  • Catch up on Twitter traffic, using the searches configured in HootSuite. Respond to things directed to us. Retweet (scheduled at intervals through the day) release announcements, or other items of interest.
  • Review news items (https://sourceforge.net/news/admin/ for classic projects, https://sourceforge.net/p/test-wiki/All%20project%20news/ for Allura projects) and select interesting project releases to add to Twitter stream.(Scheduled via Hootsuite) "Interesting" can be defined in a number of ways, but tends to mean either that it has a large developer community, or the project itself seems like it would be of interest to an audience that might spread the news along. A tool exists which creates a starting place for the tweet text, but that must of course be edited for the character limit. Save the news page, and then run news_tweets on the resulting HTML file to generate a CSV which can be imported on HootSuite.
I've been doing approximately one tweet per hour, if the news items support this. Extra items in the list should be put on Saturday and Sunday, so that the weekend is covered too.
If you need to put something time-sensitive in the Twitter stream during the week, just move something else out of the way, as most of these things aren't time-sensitive to within a few days.
Note also that reviewing the daily news items is a great way to identify "projects" that are really just spam billboards or malware distribution. Report these to CTsai.

Weekly:

  • Monday: Push featured projects for the week.
  • Monday: Schedule featured project tweets via Hootsuite (Process to be documented)
  • Mid-week, acquire a list of the top 25 projects from the previous week. Select 8-10 projects to feature on the front page in the coming week.
  • Notify these projects
  • Push out at least one podcast to the blog
