Hello,
In 7-zip version 19.00 i can associate some archive formats for 7-zip
by menu Tools, Options, System. There i can choose that 7-zip is the
default application for CabFolder package. Normally such packages have the
file name extension "cab", but that file format is also used by other
applications and other extensions.

some days ago i migrate a friends's PC from Windows 7 to 10. Unfortunately
the HP printer does not work after that procedure. So first i look by the
useful NirSoft InstalledPackagesView tool at the list of files belonging to
the HP printer MSI package. There are listed files where main name consist
of a GUID and the extension is devicemetadata-ms. Because i do not know
nothing about such files i look also for such files on my own systems.

After some hours i saw that such files are just Cab archives with special
members like PackageInfo.xml and pictures or icons. This is described in
Building Device Metadata Packages on Microsoft documentation server:
https://docs.microsoft.com
/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/install/building-device-metadata-packages

According to that page the extension "devicemetadata-ms" is used for Device
Metadata Package packed as CabFolder archives.

So it would be nice if 7-zip can also be associate with the
"devicemetadata-ms" file name extension.

Furthermore no mime type application/vnd.ms-cab-compressed is
registered for CabFolders on Windows.

Thanks
Jörg Jenderek
