    Dear Igor and the community,

Can you suggest a command line switch for silent-mode compression/extraction, i. e. with no file listing and percentage updating please?

    Thank you!

Does 7z.exe support STDERR handle as described at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490982.aspx ?

    If I call

    7z.exe ... 1>STDOUT.log 2>STDERR.log

There is nothing I see in STDERR.log even if error occurred.

    Is this normal behavior?

Yes, 7z.exe uses stdout for output, including information about errors.

It would be nice if "silent" command-line option is implemented. That is: generic information is suppressed, but errors are still printed. Redirecting stderr to /dev/null is not the best option, as all potential errors are hidden. The question appears in forum several times (here and there) but the advise is always the same.

Latest 7-Zip 15.06 beta can do it already.
        Errors are in stderr.
And stdout output can be disabled.
