    Mike-17 - 2013-05-07

    I used 7zip to backup some data before upgrading from Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04. I used multipart (slice of 1024MB) with the GUI file-roller tool.
    Now I installed the 13.04 system, and I have an issue with multi-part 7z archives. All my archives single-part could be restored, all the multi-part have the same problem: when using GUI (file-roller) it asks me a password to deflate, but I never used a password while compressing, 7z tool returns an error. Here are some terminal display for one of my multi-part achives:

    • 6 files (multi-part, not password-protected)
    $ ls -trl
    total 5948056

    • This issue seems like the one from the post "Error: Can not open file as archive". I cannot solve my issue.
      In this post, Igor asked 1) first 48 bytes of first multi-part archive, 2) last 128 bytes of last archive
      so here they are:

    • head of first archive

    $ hexdump -n 48 Documents.7z.001

    Thank you for the link Igor. I will hardly try to follow the procedure. It might be a pain because archive contained hundred of files.
    I will also try the parser named "hachoir" (https://bitbucket.org/haypo/hachoir) which may help in this task.
