Im new to 7z and am trying to extract a .7z file. i have installed the program and when i open it i navigate to the file i wish to extract. i click on it, then click extract, it prompts for a password (which i dont have). When i enter anything at all, it comes up with a dialogue box saying "file not supported".I've assumed that the password prompt is meaningless. is there a prob with my file (*.7z etxension). am i doing something wrong.

      The .7z file is encrypted.

      >it prompts for a password (which i dont have).
You better get it, or You will "never" be able to extract the file.

      >When i enter anything at all, it comes up with a dialogue box saying "file not supported".
This is exactly what happens when you enter the wrong password for an encrypted file.

      >I've assumed that the password prompt is meaningless.
      I assure You, it's not.

      >is there a prob with my file (*.7z etxension).
The only "prob" is that it's encrypted with AES-256, with a key that You don't have. That's a BIG problem.
