I'd be interested in coding a proper linux front end that looks and feels like the windows one (though I'm not loving the windows interface, similarity would be important).
If any of the main developers think that this is a runner, please give me a shout.

Is someone working on a GUI 7-Zip for Linux?

Of course !
On Linux Fedora 4 x86, you can use the default archive manager for KDE : ark.
Install the packages : kdeutils and p7zip.
the default archive manger for gnome : file-roller
should support 7z archive but on Fedora 4, file-roller
crashes when openning a 7z archive :(
1. xarchive
2. ark
3. plugin for mc
all of them work with console version of p7zip
I mean a real 7-Zip GUI port for Linux. Not such a GUI that only calls command line p7zip and does not allow access to all features.
if well done a GUI front end will allow to access all of the features available from command line

the Windows GUI of 7-zip does not allow access directly to all features.
Indeed, if you want to use (advanced ?) options, you can
type obscure commands in the parameters box ...
I think that a GUI that allow access to the main features is enough.
This kind of GUI can be a front-end of the command line 7za.exe .
I cant see a way to change compression settings in xarchive. That's what I mean.
almost all GUI arhivers use console utilites...
but they dont show normal progress line, percents and estimated time =(
maybe GUI front-end will need to use some unified arhivators libraries - zip,7zip,tar,bz2,...
ps: sorry for my bad english... ;]

I have no plans about GUI for Linux. So if you want to do it, just do it.
