I'm new here. Just tested 7z for a week. I don't care much about the functions. I'm only interested to use the 7z format to compress and decompress important data.
Is 7-zip 4.15 & 3.13 stable enough to use for critical data backup?
3.13 certainly is. Officially everything since then has been a developement version, but I more trust in Igor's betas than in some fully released software. To be safe with the betas, don't use newly introduced features.
I've been using 7-zip since the early 4.x betas, and whenever there was a stability issue it was fixed *very* quickly. I too trust Igor's betas more than most others'. I'm using 4.15 and having no problems, and I use 7-zip on a daily basis.
If you want to be 100% sure of stability, use 3.13. Personally, I trust the 7-zip betas too. The only major archive-corrupting bug I've ever seen during my use was in 4.11b and was fixed in two days with 4.12b.
