Searched for this, didn't find anything that seemed to match.
I've tried installing 7zip 64 bit on windows 7 64 bit professional, and it works except for when I double click an archive, I get an error message that the application was not found. If I right click a file or an archive, the proper 7zip context menus show up, but I can't just double click an archive of any type to open it in 7zip.
When I run 7zip file manager and select tools options and tell it to associate with all archive file types and to integrate with windows, I get an error stating that "An event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers".
When I right-click an archive and use "open with" to try to select 7zip, it's not in the list of available programs, and if I navigate to where the 7zip exe is, C:\Program Files\7-Zip, and select 7zFM.exe as the program to use, the dialog still doesn't show 7zip in the list of programs.
A few more tidbits of information, I initially installed the 32 bit version of 7zip, then when I realized there was a 64 bit version, uninstalled the 32 bit and installed the 64 bit. As it is, the 32 bit version didn't work either, at least as far as double clicking an archive goes. Don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.
Also, when I install the 64 bit version, no matter what I do, it says that windows explorer is running and needs to be closed before it can complete and gives the usual options to ignore, retry, etc. I did try using task manager to end the only windows explorer on the process list, which of course made my task bar and desktop icons go away, but 7zip then installed, or it seemed to, properly, but still no double click. Yes I rebooted.
I've tried right clicking on the installer to run as administrator, but apparently, that only applies to .exe files, and not .msi files. I do have administrator access to the computer, as far as that goes, there's no other accounts on the computer, it's a brand new windows 7 install.
Any ideas? Thanks.

ahem…..
Never mind……
Two minutes after posting this I saw another post about running 7zip itself as administrator, then selecting the file types to use by default, then it worked. No problems now, double click works fine. But, I would think that shouldn't be necessary?
