z7 v4.57 is still widely used (e.g. in Beyond Compare 3 or for scripts in old projects), but the *.7z, which I generate with v16.02 can't be processed by old 7z. Extract gives error messages "Unsupported compression method" and "Can not delete output file" (obviously because not even the file names are correctly found by v4.57).
v9.20 works best (v4.57 can process the files from v9.20 and v9.20 can process the files from v16.02), but v9.20 has severe security flaws ("http://www.zdnet.com/article/severe-7-zip-vulnerabilities-cause-top-security-software-tools-patch-panic/"), and no fix for v9.20 is available.

You can use LZMA instead of LZMA2 and 4.57 will extract such archives.
