    7-Zip 9.31 alpha was released.

    This is a development version.
Don't use this alpha version to process important files and archives.
The code of this version contains big number of changes.
And probably there are some new BUGs.
If you use 7-Zip 9.31 alpha, check 7-Zip's forum periodically for updated information.

If you need more stable version, you can use previous versions: 7-Zip 9.25 alpha or 7-Zip 9.30 alpha.

    7-Zip for 32-bit Windows:

    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z931.exe
    or
    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z931.msi

    7-Zip for 64-bit Windows x64:

    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z931-x64.msi

7-Zip 9.31 alpha version is provided without source code.
Source code will be released in future beta version.

Please write here at forum about any new bugs.

    What's new after 7-Zip 9.30 alpha:

    • 7-Zip now can create multivolume SFX archives in 7z format.
    • ZIP, NSIS, HFS, AR support was improved.
    • 7-Zip now supports files larger than 4 GiB in ISO archives
    • Improved compression ratio in 7z format with maximum or ultra level for
executable files (EXE and DLL) that are larger than 16 MB (improved BCJ2 filter).
    • Improved support for file pathnames longer than 260 characters.
    • CRC and SHA checksum calculation for files can be called via Explorer's context menu.
    • 7-Zip File Manager now also takes into account the numbers in filenames for sorting order.
    • 7-Zip File Manager can open files in "Parser" mode via "Open Archive > #" context
menu command. It shows the list of archives inside file.
    • Command line version:
      • new -t# switch to open file in "Parser" mode and show the list of archives inside file.
      • new -stx{Type} switch to exclude archive type from using.
      • -scs switch now supports UTF-16 encoding.
    • The BUGs were fixed:
      • 7-Zip could work incorrectly in decompression of more than one
        multi-volume archive in one command.
      • 7-Zip 9.24 alpha - 9.30 alpha versions could not extract ZIP archives
        encrypted with PKWARE-AES method.
    • New localization: Irish.

Thank you! Please post a link to this 9.31 alpha version on the 7-zip homepage at http://www.7-zip.org/. The homepage still lists 9.30 alpha as the latest alpha version, in the upper right corner. Also, I do not know why you call this software "alpha", I used version 9.30 alpha for over a year on several computers and it is very stable, rock-solid, release-quality software (it never crashed once, all the compressed archives it created worked perfectly upon decompression and had smaller file sizes than any competing archiver, and the only problem I ever encountered was that it wasn't able to read all types of compressed archives). The last "stable" version according to the website is 9.20, released in 2010. But personally I think version 9.30 alpha is more stable than version 9.20. So my suggestion is to retroactively upgrade the status of version 9.30 from "alpha" to "stable" and make it the main version available on the homepage (on the left side of the screen). Thank you for listening to these suggestions regarding your excellent product (which I have used as my primary compression/decompression software for over a decade and am a very happy/loyal customer of).

    Dear Igor,

Finally 9.31 came out, this means i have used 7-zip almost 14 years, this software just like a old friend to me, there're no word to express this.

    Take care, pal.
We appreciate your great job for the 14 years, that's a really long journey.

It's great to see this wonderful program progressing, with new bugs squashed and new features! [Yes, I know very well the pains of debugging new code... I'm not claiming this new version is any stabler than Igor says it is.]

    Hi Igor
    mode Parser

    1 Not translated
2 No separator (space) between the triads of numbers

  • Igor Pavlov

    Igor Pavlov - 2013-11-30

    gora:
    1. I don't include new translation lines by small portions.
It can be too complicated to update 85 translation files too often.
    2. I'll fix separator.

New code for "Parser" mode also searches start of archive in SFX archives. That code is pretty complex. So I expect some problems and BUGs there.
7-Zip opens any EXECUTABLE (like PE (EXE), ELF, MachO), only if size of that executable is equal to size of file. In other cases it searches some real archive in file.

    Igor

Why line is running at v9.30 and does not work on version 9.31

    7z a 1.7z "e:\Temp 1\Images\2\" -m0=BCJ2 -m1=LZMA:d19 -m2=LZMA:d21 -m3=LZMA:d21 -mb0:1 -mb0s1:2 -mb0s2:3

    gora2:

    I'll fix that bug. Thanks!

    7-Zip supports such command:
    -mf=BCJ2 -m0=LZMA
So I didn't even test that -mb0s1:2 switch.

Thank you. I'll wait for the corrected version, because, I have a lot of scripts with the same command line and redo all of them impractical.

This version doesn't solve jpg problem.
The only solution now is to change jpg viewer.

Thank you for the latest version - let's hope it makes it past alpha version this time! Then I can use it.

Over a year later and there's finally an update.

Damn; here I thought the project was abandoned.

Hopefully the speed of updates will increase, as I've been using WinRAR exclusively over the last few months (RAR5 format is pretty nice) due to lack of features/functionality/ease of use in 7zip.

    gora2:
Yes, it's BUG in RAR opening code.
The problem with SFX-RAR with CERTIFICATE and additional padding after archive and before CERTIFICATE.
Some another RAR archives also has unpacking problem.

    I'll fix it soon.
    Thanks!
