    7-Zip 15.02 alpha was released.

    This is a development version.
Don't use this alpha version to process important files and archives.
The code of this version contains big number of changes.
And probably there are some new BUGs.
If you use 7-Zip 15.02 alpha, check 7-Zip's forum periodically for updated information.
If you need more stable version, you can use previous version: 7-Zip 9.38 beta.

Please write here about any new BUGs of this version.

    7-Zip for 32-bit Windows:

    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z1502.exe
    or
    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z1502.msi

    7-Zip for 64-bit Windows x64:

    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z1502-x64.msi

    What's new after 7-Zip 9.38 beta:

    • 7-Zip now can create 7z, xz and zip archives with 1536 MB dictionary for LZMA/LZMA2.
    • 7-Zip File Manager now can operate with alternate file streams at NTFS
volumes via "File / Alternate Streams" menu command.
    • 7-Zip now can extract .zipx (WinZip) archives that use xz compression.
    • new optional "section size" parameter for BCJ2 filter for compression ratio improving.
Example: -mf=BCJ2:d9M, if largest executable section in files is smaller than 9 MB.
    • Speed optimizations for BCJ2 filter and SHA-1 and SHA-256 calculation.
    • Console version now uses stderr stream for error messages.
    • Console version now shows names of processed files only in progress line by default.
    • new -bb[0-3] switch to set output log level. -bb1 shows names of processed files in log.
    • new -bs[o|e|p][0|1|2] switch to set stream for output messages;
      o: output, e: error, p: progress line; 0: disable, 1: stdout, 2: stderr.
    • new -bt switch to show execution time statistics.
    • new -myx[0-9] switch to set level of file analysis.
    • new -mmtf- switch to set single thread mode for filters.
    • The BUG was fixed:
7-Zip didn't restore NTFS permissions for folders during extracting from WIM archives.
    • The BUG was fixed:
The command line version: if the command "rn" (Rename) was called with more
than one pair of paths, 7-Zip used only first rename pair.
    • The BUG was fixed:
      7-Zip crashed for ZIP/LZMA/AES/AES-NI.
    • Some bugs were fixed.

    What's new after 7-Zip 15.01 alpha:

    • The BUG was fixed: SFX archives created by 7-Zip 15.01 alpha didn't work.

Cool, 7-zip is alive again, woohooo..

Not sure if it has been reported, but ever since all updates after 9.20, you cannot update actually exe files that has been packed with 7-zip to make silent installers etc.

When you run the file after you edit it with 7-zip it says method unsupported.

      http://prntscr.com/7792lu

An example here is that, I'm adding all the new updates to the same installation file as i would normally do, but I'm forced to go back to 9.20 else i cannot update it.

Can you please look into it?, and if you need any more info, please tell me what to do since i really wanna get rid of that nasty bug ;).

When you make updates can you provide the program without the installer.
So i can have the stable 7-Zip installed, and the alpha version not installed (just running from a folder).

As a workaround, you can extract the contents of the installer to a folder. I don't remember how EXE installer is packaged, but in MSI version you need to rename the executables - their names begin with underscores. Or you can extract MSI to 7-Zip's installation folder (language files rarely have bugs and executables are distinct).

Update. Sorry, I forgot that 7z.dll cannot be found when its name is different. My second suggestion is thus incorrect.

    Hello!

in my company (400+ employees) 7zip is the official decompression utility. There is a strange defect on any version (official, beta and alpha too). If I open a 7z archive, and drag&drop one or more files from 7zip window to any folder, I always get the error "open error: the system cannot find the file specified".
Is it a defect of software or some kind of misconfiguration of my machine?
I installed the x64 version on a Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Attached is the screenshot of error.
Best Regards and Thanks for your effort!

    Mario.

P.S. It works if I press the "Extract" button.

So you have some program named "teracopy" that probably works for drag&drop actions. Probably there is problem with compatibility with that program.

Maybe 7-Zip thinks that operation was finished before teracopy was started.

You can try to disable teracopy.

Yes, you're right. It is an issue with TeraCopy. Just for info, it's a free alternative copy handler that speeds up operations with large files.
    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Mario.

Yes, there is BUG. 7-Zip 15.01-15.02 writes incorrect "CRC check" value for password ZipCrypto.
And new 7-Zip (15.00 and later) checks that value.
Old 7-Zip can extract such incorrect archives. But WinRAR also checks that value.

Did you create that ZIP archive with 7-Zip 15.02?
What version of WinRAR did you use with that archive?

I'll fix the BUG in next version of 7-Zip. Thanks!
