just put it on ultra compression with large dictionary/word size.  Also if you have many similar roms you can probably get it down to this size.  If every file is different it may not get down that small (i.e.  compression level depends on type of date being compressed...

use solid compression and big dictionary. it allows 7- zip to utilize similarities between consecutive roms.

7-Zip is MAGIC if you know how!!!

make sure none of the files is already compressed with zip or something similar

1.5 gigs...in 55mb's...dependends of the data, normally LZMA/ULTRA/32MBS' works great, if the data have a lot of txt try PPMD with 192mb's of dicc

if the data it's pre-packed/crypted like xoring, zlib or similar...you must to unpack it and repack with 7-zip, to take some compression

      good luck

      How about this then........

I compressed 5.7 GB down to 67 MB using 7zip. Okey, that was a very special case (gym files), but i did it, beat that. (93.5 MB down to 223 Kb wasn't bad either)

      ;)

If you have many similar files (pal, ntsc, rev a, rev b, etc) you can cut down the size plenty. I downloaded a 7zip file containing 103.500 roms to Commodore 64 (from a torrent site), it took a while to unpack........
